Ripping CD ????

Anybody please clear me with what is ripping a Cd. As far as i know it is converting ths audio songs of a CD into a format compatible to be played in PC. Is it really so?? Please correct me if i am wrong . Thank you in advance

You can make iso of the disk with IsoBuster or UltraIso.

That's correct. To quote wikipedia: Ripping is the process of copying the audio or video data from one media form, such as DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray or CD, to a hard disk.. So when you rip an audio cd, you convert the songs to a format compatible to be played on a PC. This can (for example) be done with Windows' media player.

You can also rip a cd-rom, in which case you convert the contents of the cd to a format which can be used by cd-burning software to write them to another cd-rom (see bostko's post).

even unripped songs can be played in the computer bt ripping makes it possible to store in mp3 format and other formats you would like to use. yes ripping means converting so that you could use your audio/video cd/dvd freely without much copyright problems
