Trying to connect to table through PHP page

chasbeen
OK, this is a bit basic.

However here goes.

I cannot connect to the database though my little PHP form using the common syntax:
$db = mysql_connect("localhost", "<frihost username>");
mysql_select_db("<username_password default db from frihost>",$db);

I'm getting..

Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Access denied for user: 'apache@localhost' (Using password: NO) in /home/chasbeen/domains/<domain>/public_html/fun/employees.php on line 143
