phpbb installation problems

applejunk
I followed the tutorial on how to install a phpbb forum on your website but for some odd reason, it won't let me install. The tutorial is by no means the problem it is excellent, it's very clear and straightforward. I think the reason might be because of my internet, but I'm not sure. After I hit start installation it loads for about two to three minutes and then it gives me a blank page. When I try to refresh it, it takes me back to the installation screen. However, when I try to install it again it gives me an error saying that such and such has already been created. Thinking that the forum has already been installed I went ahead and deleted the contrib and install directories, but when I tried to load the forums afterwards it gave me a php error. Is my internet timing out on the installation so it's only installing halfway? I share a router with 10 other people so my internet can get very slow or disconnect often. I would like to know if it's a problem with the internet or something that I am doing wrong. Thanks!

I'm just gonna expand on what applejunk said.

I've been trying to do it for her since she was unable to make it work and I've ran into the same problems, however, I did manage to get it to work.

More specifically, I believe the installer timed-out while trying to create tables (on the create_table page) in the mySQL database. The installer would just stop half way through adding the tables and show a white page. It wasn't the installers problem either, she tried 2 different versions of phpbb2 and I used phpbb3, and eventually the phpbb3 I was able to get working but I had to drop the incomplete tables added by the installer from phpMyAdmin and retried from the page before create_table, at least 10 times before the installer was able to successfully create all the tables (for phpbb it's 62 in total) and complete the installation.

So it wasn't your internet applejunk, it was more server side than anything else. And a note to anyone else experiencing the problem, just keep dropping the incomplete tables (otherwise the installer will not continue) and go back to the previous page and click the button again, rinse and repeat until it does it successfully. o.o;
