This has been eating me for a while...and I welcome all your views...

How does Orkut make money?
I see no ads...I see no visible way it's making money...

And yet Google bought it...

Is it only to get people to change to gmail (as gmail shares its login with Orkut?)

Or is something else hatching...

The main concept behind buying orkut is traffic. Google does have ads on orkut. Please have a look at the communities. They do contain ads.

can you tell me when google purchased Orkut? i mean since the day i m using orkut i saw just gmail login.

I use gmail to login,I do not know how dose it make money,but it is realy a good website and a lot of people like it.

actually not eacy and every service is just for the sake of money. Google is just makind people their users and trying to compete hi5, yahoogroups, myspace through orkut, googlegroups and googlepages.

This is definitely going to help them in long term.

I DON KNO HOW IT MAKES MONEY BUT IT DEFENITELY PAYS A LOTTA BUCKS TO THE ORKUT GUY.
EVERY TIME U SEND A SCRAP HE GETS A FIXED AMOUNT.
EVERY TIME U OPEN A COMMUNITY HE GETS A SUM.
FOR WHATEVER U DO GOOGLE PAYS ORKUT..
SO ITS BIG MONEY...

if u use adblock or something u wont notice, but google uses adsense into communities, and other data content pages
