A group of guys at work are talking about this new type of web site called e107. As they explain it, it basically makes it very easy to change the content without knowing much about web design. So at work you can have a computer noob manage a website once its finished design. I've done some web searches on it but it didnt really tell me too much. Anyone here know much about this ? Is it as good as they say ? Is it something that I can play with here ? Any pros/cons ?

Thanks, appreciate any thoughts and input !

Its called as Content Management System (CMS), wherein you don't have to code/edit a file every time you have to change/add the content on your site

Usually CMS store their content in databases. Also CMS can be adapted to various uses, eg. Blog, Shopping Site, Forum Site, etc.

Most of the CMS now hav WYSIWYG systems integrated, so you can edit a page just as you would do in MS Word. The content of the ouput page is dynamically generated by the template, and the database.
i.e The template will generate the fixed layout, and the content will be fetched from the database.

Most CMS have now a large number of Templates(/Themes/Skins/Layouts) and Plugins(/Addons/Mods/Hacks).

e107 is a very easy to use CMS, with large number of plugins and themes, but its not very customizable.

Drupal, Joomla are highly recommended, but they are quite advanced for usage.

Textpattern is simple, small and very very fast. Its also highly customizable.

You should decide your purpose first then choose the CMS.
I think Joomla and Drupal is big for personal usage. If you want to build a website for yourself, i think Wordpress is enough for using.
