Updating phpbbhomer09001
can someone guide me on how to update phpbb to the newest version of 2.0.15 as when i upload the new version and run the install wizardy thingy i put it on upgrade i enter the username as homer0900_phpb1 and teh password as teh one i normaly use t access Cpanel but it says it cant connect to database
any ideas pls Bondings
You should enter the username and password of your forum and not that one of cpanel. (if you have to enter it somewhere in phpBB) By the way, isn't there an option to update it in fantastico? If you go to phpBB installs, it must be somewhere in there. sean

If you really want to use phpbb 2.0.15 why don't try to install a fresh phpbb 2.0.15. I think try to update form 2.0.13 to 2.0.15 will make you have problems. How to do this? Frist you have to create new Database and new User. Add this User to your Database. (You can delete the old Database which you install phpbb 2.0.13 by Fantastico.) If you don't know how to do that you can ask here. I will help you ^_^ After that, you must download phpbb 2.0.15 at http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php. Upload they to your host. And try to Install it. BumYeu
Eh, I forgot this: If you can't connect to your Database you can change these things in your Install page:
Database Server Hostname / DNS: still use "localhost" Domain Name: don't put "www.", just "yoursubdomain.frihost.net" You can see this topic --> http://frihost.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=732. Maybe it can help you. Good luck. homer09001
nope still getting same error here is what im entering:

These are some of the things that (I am guessing) could be wrong -
database name and database username should be something in the format of homer090_xxxx ...please double-check the db name and db username. I assume you have already created a mySQL db and user in cPanel and granted all privileges on the db to this user. you can note down the db-name and the user-name in cPanel, and should use the exact same name on the phpBB install page. (if you typed in the db-name as forum, it's most probably got created as homer090_forum, similarly the username would be homer090_hill) another thing I noticed -
this should be 4...but I'm not absolutely sure are you manually entering it ? if yes, then try changing it, else leave it as is. hope it helps, and let us know how it goes.  homer09001
found out the problem i hadent bindeed a username to the database so it wouldnt connect

Eh, did you create new a Database for your Forum? I guest you didn't!
Now I will show you how to do that? Frist, go to your host Control Panel then select MySQL Databases, and create the Database's name you want. Like these images 
It'll auto convert to "YourUserName_TheNameYouWant" After that, create new user and add to your database. This name also auto convert to "YourUserName_TheNameYouWant". Note: you must lick to the Box "ALL". Look here

So, I think when install phpBB you must select: Database Type: MySQL 4.x Database Name: (full name like this my image before) "YourUserName_TheNameYouWant" Database UserName: (full name like my image before) "YourUserName_TheNameYouWant" Hehe that's all. Good luck ^_^ Lord Klorel
Can somebody tell me how i upgrade my forum from 2.0.17 to 2.0.18?
I ask this because i don't know to start this. I am afraid to do something wrong and that my entire forum will be disappeared. I hope that it should be easy, but i have my doubts on it. I searched the entire website of phpBB, but i can't find any help in updating my forum. I hope somebody can help me.  n0obie4life
