Solaris 8 install - 'newfs failed'

I am a Sun newbie :0( ....... I guess you have to start somwhere!
I am trying to install Solaris-8 on a Sparc system, the installer boots without a problem, it asks a couple of basic questions regarding disk partitioning then when i continue i get the message 'newfs failed' and the installer quits? I'm really not to sure what is going on and really need some help by anyone who knows Sun Sparc systems.

Why not download solaris 10 and try that (you'll probably need to check compatibility with your system)
