backup data on remote server

JayBee
I have one server with few hosted web sites (about 2GB)
and I have some space on other machine with 10GB of space for me

I wont some ideas how to back up, how many times and when.

I can write script and ad it to cron, but I don't know how to backup the best way. What about files currently changing. What about old backups...

Thank you for any advice.

Server is Linux and backup space is accessible throw ftp.

When I used Linux as backup server and client I always used Bacula over my LAN. I recommend you do an incremental backup every day, and a full backup every week. Keep as many backups as you can as well as several "old" backups.

Have you considered using wget? It has a very good and simple to use mirroring feature.

You can schedule it to run daily. It will pull the files that are new or that have changed.

You can combine this with a scheduled database dump. Zip it with encryption, put it on a subdirectory, and have wget copy it as well...

Bacula sounds good. I will try it at home network Very Happy but I can't use it for my primary purpose.

Wget is interesting idea, but as above I don't have remote access to computer where I want to save backup files. I have only FTP account.
