Im currently using a chat box from xat.com. Does anyone know if there is a better chat box for free?

My advice : look for a chatbox server hosted in your country or with a very good response time, this kind of features can make your website very slow if you have to wait for the box to be loaded.
I used to have a MyShoutbox shoutbox. You can easily use your own stylesheet [just use something like http://xxxxxx.myshoutbox.com/?extcss=http://yoursite.com/style.css for your iframe]. 
If you are able to donate something, you can go for YShout [donationware], an AJAX-based shoutbox with a nifty admin panel and admin options. You can also customize the CSS as much as you want. The downside is that if you own a huge site with lots of active users chatting all at the same time, YShout could crash and/or put quite some load on your server.
