I wonder if it will be capable of connecting to other IM services as an all-in-one, much like like trillian can intigrate AOL, MSN, IRC/ICQ, and Y! all together. All in all, I certainly look forward to Google's new peice of technology. Very Happy

Search "gaim for windows" in google... make sure uve got GTK+ installed or choose the version that includes it...

Gaim allows all sorts of features/plugins, use it for MSN, Yahoo, AIM...

AND... it's open source goodness!!

According to that article, too many things on Google's plate. Guess we'll have to wait and see. But judging by the way google operates (the best Search engine, and the best email service), I can't wait to see what they'll offer in IMs. Ought to be awesome.

It is an IM client and can do internet calls as well. Jabber based. It is very basic at the moment. You have to have a GMail account to use it - obviously a direct challenge to MSN / Hotmail. Skype will feel threatened as well, I guess. You can actually use GAIM or Trillian or any other client that supports Jabber to connnect to Google Talk.
