PHP function to remove this sorta thing: ., &#16

PatTheGreat42
I'm looking for a PHP function, and was hoping someone could help me out. I'm pretty sure there's a built-in PHP function that will convert things like . and   into their displayed equivelents (like, actually change the / in a string to a /), but since I don't have my PHP for Dummies book, I can't find it. Anybody know it, or do I actually have to spend the two minutes to come up with a conversion script? Thanks.

I think you are talking codes such as & , ©, and  . If I am wrong, slap me. However, if I am not wrong then there are two functions you should look at.

To Encode
To Decode
