Who has used this one? I think it is really cool. It is a continuing of YaBB forum. It has a lot of very nice features and mods.
check here
http://www.simplemachines.org
its the best forum software next to IPB and vB.
moreover its free.
so you can get loads of modifications and themes for it.
also, the inbuilt modification (package) installed is nice.
just upload the mod and click Install/Apply Mod.
and whoa..!! the mod is installed.
Do you think my opinion is right ?
Do you prefer using other free forums scripts than this one ... mybb, phpbb,
thanks

I haven't used it as an admin, but I know that the CMS Made Simple site uses SMF. It seems to be perfectly effective from the user's end.
I'm not sure I see much of a difference between it and phpBB. Is there anything significant? Both are free and both are popular (phpBB is used at frihost).

SMF is my second favroite forum software, next to IPB.
Put simply, I hate smf.
I agree that smf is better than phpbb2 in some respects
The only thing that smf has over phpbb3 (in my opinion) is the automated plugin system, and even then the phpbb team have created something similar for the ACP / MCP / UCP, and they are all also adding further plugin support, which should allow for more one click mod installs.
Tell me a feature that smf has (apart from plugin system), and I bet that phpbb3 as the same, better, or equivalent feature
HOW COULD YOU HATE SMF?!?!?!
A GHOST WILL HAUNT YOU!!!! *dies*
Nah, people have their own opinions, I guess.
**Calls ghost busters**
Sorry, I was on a bit of a phpbb rant at the time
I don't HATE smf as such, its just their default themes make me feel so dead, and the backend code is a bit annoying(They don't even have a template system
) whereas the new phpbb theme isn't brilliant, but its still got a lot more life to it

I had used SMF for almost a year and found it the bestforum/CMS/arcade out there, I would still have it but my host started charging for the mysql db's. Bottom line, SMF rules im my books, they have everything needed for anything really and a great support site for people with questions about the product. You should try SMF with Tiny portal, the tiny portal gives it lots of extra functionality and not to mention a different look.
Well I SMF is my favorite forum script. yea , PHPBB 3 is maybe better than SMF 1.x but SMF 2 is already out in beta mode So I guess it will be leading the show again when it comes out of Beta. One thing which i don't like about SMF are most of current themes are dull. Thats the only bad thing i can say but can live with it. Its a simply superb forum script.
Do you have iBLUES theme for this forum because this theme is the best for me, with blue background
SMF is a bit bloated that is why I dont use it much.. Of course I do like the looks of it, seems elegant!
SMF is my favourite free forum software.
Very easy to install mods, themes, etc.
Many features too.
I have used SMF for a long time and I like it very much
Yes, installing mods in SMF is just point and click when phpBB mods meant modifying the php files
But somehow, it didn't work when I used smf in my frih account.
Now that the php is upgraded, i guess i should try again.
I have used it for a little time and I think it is a very good board, fast, powerfull and with a very good admininstration panel.
The right management of the members is flexible and the message editor is really good !
I have a question to everyone using SMF in Frihost.
Do any mods work for you guys?
I have installed a clean version of SMF 1.1.4 and I couldnt get any mods to work.
Yes, Im using the default theme.
Since this didnt work out, I installed a clean version of 1.1.3 on a different directory, but couldnt get any mods to work on it either.
I have no idea why the mods wont work... they should work, as they were both new installations and I was using the default theme..
Anyone else having this problem?
Is it the frihost servers that's causing this?
ok its very nice to see, is it possible to change the datas from php to smf without affecting any posts or datas.

I had the same problem.
When trying to install a mod, it just asks you to give the ftp information. Even after you do that, it goes back to the same page and the mod is not installed.
I stopped using the forum, so I don't know if the problem still persists. Anyway, SMF mods worked just fine on another server that I used.
Just point and click - the mods get installed.
Hi buddies,
Both applicatiosn are nice, vBulletin is also nice, but im waiting for Olympus.... its gonna rock.
I was using phpbb here on frihost but recently changed it to smf and i must say i'm glad i did that. Admin panel is very easy to use all options are where they should be. In phpbb i was often searching and trying options many times before i got what i wanted. Here i have set up and tweaked my forum in 15 minuts to the way i wanted. Don't know about the mods as i didn't tried any yet.
okkkk ... so these are the moost popular cms.......... i got it thatnks for it
