Did you already received a message like this? It's the first time I get spammed like this on YouTube, I was annoyed by the advertising comments but now if they start to PM us I don't know what I will do! The worse now is that I have activated the option that send me a e-mail when someone send me a message! So I don't only get one but two spam messages, one on YouTube and one on my mails box! When I got the first one I thought it was just an exeption because it was the first time but few minutes later I received a new one, now I want to turn off the e-mail option but YouTube have a bug and I can't modify it!

YouTube won't stay in my favorite if they can't control their users!

This happens on a lot of social websites. Just look at the average video website and the comments on the movies. Sometimes it's 100% spam. And obviously they also use the private message system too.

This is one of the reasons why I removed the memberlist link, to make it harder to spam the (top) members by pm.

I'm not sure, but quite a lot of websites only allow messages to be sent from 'friends' or 'contacts' (in a list), or at least provide that option.

YouTube sucks. It takes them literally hours to remove pornographic videos, but it takes me a couple hours to get my clean videos approved, and once my *clean* videos are approved and have gotten 50,000 views and over 100 comments, they get taken off for Terms of Service violation - specifically why isn't mentioned. I've stopped using YouTube and started using MetaCafe, it's better in my opinion.

I get those on a daily basis, it's really anoying, just mark as spam.
isledepoba
Yeah, i get em all the time...
their more or less just spam. I report them and just watch more videos Very Happy.
But I think that Youtube should do something. I know it's kinda hard but...

If a spammer can spam they will. Spambots are indifferent to different CMSes and will never cease to spam a site. For all its concerned it's spamming a forum.

It's really hard to stop them without some way to let users blow a whistle to ban the sucker. IP bans don't work. Companies use people to anylise CAPTCHAs at times before letting the spambot loose. It's really easy advertising because of the openness.

I was planning to spam and profit before they started, but I guess it's too late now. They're probably working on some type of filter.

As you know, most popular portal sites like googel and yahoo are making money with ads on their sites or using consummer's info. youtube is one of the most popular sites now. so there are many chances to use it

Ahhh yes.....

The spambots have infested every freakin corner of this place we call cyberspace. Why in the world would we think that Youtube would be any different? Myspace too....I get these spams all the time. You'd think it was enough that they infest my email account,......oozing around my spam filter like the slimeballs they are. But nno......they need to creep into everything. Do they really think these methods will help them sell anything??? As far as I am concerned I may just boycott everything that I get spammed for!!!

Think of all the script kiddies reading this thread and snickering to themselves.

I rarely buy things I see advertised, in my opinion spam is a huge waste of money. Its hard to believe that anyone would buy something they see advertised but it happens.

I was at a bar once with a friend, and he ordered Corona, and I was like eww, and asked him why he ordered such a nasty beer when there are so many good choices. He said "Well I like their ads". I couldn't stop laughing and still pick on him about it, and he still drinks the nasty crap because "he likes their ads"!!!

i'm a long member of youtube and i never got an e-mail like this
maybe it's a fake?
Afaceinthematrix
I get those messages all the time. Just keep marking them as spam and they slow down (well at least they did for me. It may have been a coincidence, though.)
lethaltriad
I've never gotten any of those messages before and i've beena member for about a year now. I always see the spam messages though on video comments. Just ignore it, youtube is a nice site to waste couple mins watching videos lol.

I don't agree with you on this point, just think about how many peoples are using Internet Explorer v5.5 and you have your answer! Seriously, it's not everybody that know about the scams on the web, my parents aren't so good in computer and anyways they are too afraid of the cyberspace to put their credit card on their computer but they wouldn't click on ads. But if my dad is searching something about digital camera and he see an ad on a website, he will probably click on it! So yes ads are good, but I will never click on any ads because most of them are pure crap, we all know it. Just another example, the last year I had a web page with a hit counter, I went to a random sex chat under the nickname "19/Female/Horny". I got like 250 PMs in ONE day! My auto-reply was something like "hey, i'm on my webcam, come see it on my blog : www.asxadasfauifya.com". I got ~ 230 hits. So yes you and me won't click on ads but it's because we know what ads are, unlike the majority of internet users!

About Youtube, I haven't receive any spam message so I guess I just got bad luck, I wish it will stay like this.
erlendhg
I haven't got any "mails" like that on YouTube.
On the other hand, I get these messages in my mailbox that unknown strangers want to share videos with me and become my "friend", when they really just want to gain popularity.

I have for instance got videos by a number of comedians (and similar), and even videos featuring P Diddy Razz

Spam is right up there with automated telemarketers and collection agencies in terms of waste of my time. Seriously, one step above people who rob old grannies of their life savings in the scumbag hierarchy. Do everyone a favor and DIAF.

You see lots of those messages in comments of videos already.
ftv_flung
Just something you should be aware of is that YouTube is user-generated so you should look out for yourself really and not go crying to other forums or the YouTube staff about it.

Fact of life. Even before the internet. Live with it.
Bilkers
I've been using youtube for some time and I've never seen this before, but it's like any emails or private messages from anyone I don't know with content like that, it goes straight into the bin.
Jaan
I really hate comments spam. That's why I won't read them on popular videos, as I know it will ALL be spam! The worst thing is some people (yes there are extremely dumb people!) will actually read the ads and visit the website!!!
