On many occasions I have noticed that the reporting by the western media of Asian successes are rather subdued. Whether it is Golf when Vijay Singh wins a tournament or when Anand wins the World chess championship, the reporting is too flat! or even the T20 Cricket match over the BBC.
Not just in sports even in other spheres of life. They are not reported neutrally.
Is this true? and why? Your ideas are welcome
Its the Western media: it will without doubt be biased towards western countries targeting western consumers.
Similarly, I don't expect the Asian media to cover western cricket or western sport in the same light as they do to their own.
Maybe they need to improve theirs skills at soccer
The 'Western media' isn't omnipotent - they report for Western audiences so it's to be expected that they won't be as breathless about news from outside the West. Al Jazeera I can highyl reccomend if you're looking for a somewhat less-West skewed style of reporting. It's not so much that the BBC et al are not neutral, it's just not what their target audience are after.
From time to time I watch the Australia Network News - that's meant to be targeted at an Asia-Pacific audience. It's produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (our equivalent to the BBC) in English and from what I've seen it's quite a good bulletin..if you were looking for an alternative that and the BBC would be two good choices.
It is not the eastern news I am talking about. Even when Vijay Singh won the US Pro Circuit, he was not featured prominently. The same is the case with Anand's victory at the World championship now or for that matter the Indian school boys winnning the world inter school rugby championship in UK!

I've never watched golf a day in my life, don't play, and could care less about the sport. Nor do I have family members or close friends that play or care. Nevertheless, I have heard of Vijay Singh. Draw what conculsion you will from that.

yo Moonspider... sorry abou not giving the response to that question, something to do with the UN. i did write it, but the forum asked me to login in again, and my new comments were lost. I have since been too lazy to rewrite a response. So sorry about that.
btw, Vijay Singh, isn't he fijian?, which is under British control?? So it can be argued both ways when rshanthakumar says, "he was not featured prominently".

No worries.

I guess the BBC is just producing news in a way their target audiences wants this news to be delivered. I'm an ASEAN and I want to hear great things about ASEANS, that's why ASEAN news networks highlights ASEAN victories. I guess the same goes with the westerners.

If Singh or Anand were exceptional baseball players (in US) or football players (in Europe or elsewhere) you could see their faces everywhere. Nobody cares (I mean the general public) about chess or cricket players or even about golf players.
Stop whining! Nobody persecutes "Asians"!

Not neutral means biased! Give examples or, I'm forced to repeat myself, stop whining!

What's this nonsense about "Asian" or "ASEAN"?
Asian is a too general term: it includes very different cultures/peoples as for example Israelis, Arabs, Indians, Chinese, Japanese. Or you want to appropriate this term for yourselves like Americans (of the US) did?
ASEAN?? You mean the organization? LOL
