how do you get to work?

qazwsx741
it is about 2 miles away from my house to my office, i used to ride my bike ,but now i find it is very uncomfortable for me ,cause the weather is getting colder and colder, and i don't have a car. so i have to take the bus ,it is not very convenient either. the bus often misses the time.

my work is less than a quarter of a mile away from my house, i used to walk, i drive a car now.

You seriously drive on a 1/4 mile commute? That's kind of sad. Also not too great for your car.

I bike most of the year, but when it starts snowing it'll be too dangerous for biking (not a lot of snow removal in tax-poor Montana), and I'll have to figure out the bus route from the new house. I could probably walk, but I'm not sure quite how excited I'll be to walk 1.6 miles in the winter time.

I still go to school, but I think it doesn't matter here, does it?
I used to ride my bike, it's just five or six kilometres (three to four miles). But since a friend of mine living near me has a driving license and a car, I tend to drive with him. I still go by bike sometimes.
Usually I drive back with him and drive to school with the train - the trainstation is just a few steps away from my home.

Well, for one who lives a long way away from pretty much anything, the only option is to drive.
Only those who live close to everything (city boys, right?) have the luxury of several different transportation options.

I take a train and my train station is 0.6 miles from home!!

But then again, I don't have a choice because work is 30 miles away!

I wake up, get out of bed, go to the bathroom, take a leak, go across the hallway to my office, sit down in front of my PC and - I'm at work! Very Happy

I hop in my car and get on the highway and travel at 85mph for about 6 minuets. My work is not real close but I can get there really quick if there is no bacon in my way to spoil my day. Laughing

Well i tend to drive to my work. My work is like 3 miles away and all. As for school I simply get a ride with my friend. If not i ride the bus. I could ride a bike but i'm too lazy.

I drive my car to work. Dont like buses, they too slow. And a person needs to be much more organised to be in a bus
With a car, u can be lazy.

Buses are too full for my taste, too. I hate driving with the bus, no matter if it's daily or for a holiday.

I bus everywhere. It's not so bad. Plus in winter you dont have to warm up your car or drive in a frozen car. The bus is always toasty. Plus you can sit back and enjoy your coffee and not even worry about the road! Cant go wrong...

I go to my workplace by car, because it's far away from my home and there are not train or bus stations... anyway I prefer to be alone in my car listening music than in a crowded bus or train!!!

But not the bus stop...

I don't think there's any question about what's most convenient. If you don't live in a major dense metro area (like New York, Paris, London, etc.), it's way easier and more comfortable to drive to work (in fact, it's easier still to be chauffeured). However, it's also destroying the planet. I find the reduction in my CO2 emissions and fuel expense to be well worth the minor inconvenience of biking to work/school every day. Not only that, but I'm healthier than I would be if I drove. Also, when it gets too icy to bike, I'll put up with the hassle of riding the bus. It's a small price to pay for the health of the planet.

Previously i used to go by bus.But now population in our village has so much increased that there is no place in the bus to stand. All buses go crowded near my house. So i have taken now a new bike. But still i feel very risky because there is lot of traffic on the road.I have no other option now.

^You'd think that with so many people on the buses, the bus business would be doing good enough to buy more buses and reduce the crowding... Isn't that the goal of a business? To grow and get more profits? They have the money, they have reason to expand. Why don't they? Is it a private corporation or public funded transportation?

I have to drive. I have no choice because my city does not have decent public transportation.

Well our airlines provides a free ride to the airport Very Happy

thankfully public transport here in germany is pretty reliable and always (more or less Wink) on time, so i can take a bus/tram/train to work. when the weather is good, i bike sometimes
alyer
I prefer to get a shuttle bus -it much quickly than go to garazh to get my car especially in winter.. In summer i often drive to my work on my car...
Ecthelion
Just bought a electric bike.

Nice when you have to go 17km away each day...

At least you don't get to work sweating for death, and still you do some sport...

Just make sure you lock your bike up carefully :p
standready
I walk the 16 steps from my kitchen to the office.
ocalhoun
Well, now that I'm in the air force, the way I get to work has changed a bit!
I used to drive a Jeep, now I march to work in formation...
BPrice
I work about 20 miles away from my home so I ride my motorcycle or drive my car when the whether is not very nice.
wellerchap
I ride the 18 miles from my home into Leeds (northern England) on my Lambretta. It cuts through congestion very well and is economical on fuel.
I keep a camera with me most days & enjoy snapping away when the conditions are good.....or bad!

Driving a car 400 yards to get to work sounds like a very expensive way of getting to work. The first 5 minutes are when a car is at its most uneconomical. Still, if you have money to burn....
Is it actually faster (door-to-door) than walking?

It's also not very good for the car.
