How to request less shifts...?

I just got a new job, and I asked for a MAXIMUM of 3 shifts, preferably 2. This was on the information that the shifts were 6 hours long. However, I've been schedualed for shifts that are around 8 hours long, and I cannot, in any way, afford to spend that much time a week away from my studies.

What have been the best methods you've had to ask for less shifts so soon after being hired?

Just ask for one less shift. It's that simple, no real trick to it. Just be honest. Say that workign that many hours will interfere with your studies. Most peple are understanding of that
