The state will officially SHUT DOWN OPERATIONS on October 1 if a budget agreement is not reached.
No Cops.
No Construction.
No DMV.
No Courts.
No Unemployment office.
No Trash Pickup.
No Teachers.
No Government.
Can you imagine?
They are technically supposed to shut down the Casino's in Detroit because the gaming board is not going to be working, but the Mayor of The D told everyone the other day he would do whatever he had to to keep the money flowing in the Casinos.
I asked myself what type of world had we become when the most important thing on the menu was keeping the gambling going when there are no cops on duty. But then I thought about it: The Casinos contribute $450K a DAY to the tax revenue of Detroit. That pays all the cops, firemen, and teachers for the whole year in the city, with some left to spare.
Detroit has laid off a HUGE portion of its Public safety and Education departments in the past few years. Why? Well... like the Mafia, you can only make so much before the Boss want's a bigger piece. You gotta kick up and pay tribute, or else you get stifled or whacked.
So now that there is no Boss to kick up to, Kwame basically did what anybody in his position would: He kept the show going, and the money flowing.
Anyway, this is all really close to happening, but it hasn't yet. Hopefully there will be an 11th Hour (sequel to the 7th Guest) agreement, and nobody will have to shut down.
They have until Midnight Sunday, or everybody in the state will be working for free... Or not at all...
