I have 2 cats. One is a 5 year old male named Morgan, and the other is a 2.5 year old female named Lucy. We adopted her from the Humane Society. Morgan I got from some people who had kittens that needed homes.

I wanted to get a pug puppy last week, but my wife wouldn't let me. Something about not being able to afford it or some crap like that. Once we get a bigger house in the country, I will be getting three dogs: a black lab, a yellow lab, and a chocolate lab.
charisco
We used to have a Yellow Lab before we moved to Tennessee from Illinois. Man, that was one awesome dog. His name was Buddy. You talk about a smart dog. He would play tug of war with everyone in the family and was smart enough to not pull as hard when he played with our youngest as he did with the older kids or with my wife and I.

I miss him alot, but the good news is that he is at my in-laws' house, so when we go back for a visit, I will be sure to see him as well!!!!
DivineLight
When I was 11, I was very fond of pets, my dad always told me that it's no little responsibility to take care of your pets. But i got 2 pairs of Australlian Parrots somehow. I liked them at first but soon I lost interest, and after 6months my dad had to look after them Very Happy

And that's the last day, after that I never thought of having a pet.

We also have fishes since... sometime before we got the cats, I think DX

My mom used to have this arowana (i think it was the silver one) she loved so much. Unfortunately it died one day for reasons I couldn't remember. She's tried replacing it, but never worked. They just werent the same and were a lot more vicious then the old one.

browncoat777
I have a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel named Flicka. She is so old, shaggy, and lethargic it's pitiful, but I love her.(Except on some days...lol)

This past year I took care of my brother's dog when he was in Iraq. That was an eight month old yellow lab...haha, if you know dogs, you're probably laughing already. He was the exact opposite of my staid old lap dog: she was a lawn ornament, and he was a pinball, running back and forth between all things chewable and destructable(which is a lot for a seventy pound beastie like him). the best part, however, would be when he would try to play with my old twenty-three pound Flicka: she'd walk away disdainfully, and if he'd follow, she turn around and snap at him like a warhound. The giant brute would run away and give the most quizzical expression you've ever seen!

Wow, sorry for my verbosity in this post! One Cocker Spaniel!

The best bet is to look for a local club - I'm sure there will be one. Take Casey along and I'm sure they will be happy to start training. We have several German Sheps' in the local club.

I used to own a miniature collie named Princess before she died of unknown causes. Sad However, I'm thinking about getting a St.Bernard now. Does anyone know if there is a place where that breed can be bought for less that $500? That seems to be all I can find!

It is my opinion that a good dog is priceless. But beware..you can spend a thousand dollars and get the best pooch you could ever want, or a hundred dollars, and get a nightmare. What I'm trying to say is, you want a dog that you connect with. One that looks into your eyes, trying to figure out what you want from him. I refer to this type as a 'pleaser'. Try not to focus on the money so much. (A good dog does not mean that he/she is a pure bred. (I have never owned a dog that came with papers.)
There is no doubt that St. Bernards are beautiful animals. But first, and foremost you must Connect. If not, your ST. Bernard could be worth a million bucks, but be a big disappointment.

Lastly...Just go and get a freekin' dog! Who cares where it's from, or what breed it is! Just make sure that it looks into your eyes when you meet it. If it does, I guarantee you will be pleased!

Thanks Bikerman, but I don't think that I'll need anyone to "Train" him, as I'm pretty good at that myself. Casey is eager to learn. He is a pleaser. I invent something for him to do, and after repeating it a couple of times, he has it down.
(I really must upload some videos to my site eventually, so that you can get the jist of it.)
BTW, Your pooches are gorgeous! I especially like the pic of Max. 12 years old and still going strong with that big smile on his face!

Training is essential if you want to compete in the higher grades (grade 1 is for beginners, going up to grade 7 advanced). The grading system was recently changed (diagram below). You move up the grades by winning competitions.

It's as much about training you as training the dog. My wife is a trainer at our club. There is a lot to learn - how to call the dog through from a right exit to a left entry, where to stand for each obstacle, how to hit the 'weave poles' at speed and from either direction, what calls to use for what obstacles and so on. Our dogs run nearly every weekend in the year at some show or another, and they train twice a week at the Wilmslow Agility club. They love it - as nearly all dogs do - and it keeps them fit and healthy.

We had a long haired GS (called Aslan) so I know the breed pretty well. They are good at Agility generally (though the Border Collie is the 'king' of the sport which is why we got Maddie - to compete at the highest levels).

Max was a sad case - he had been badly abused when we took him from the RSPCA and was frightened of all males (he would growl everytime I sat in a room with him). It took us months to build up his trust and for him to let himself be stroked without cringing.
Nowadays (6 years on) he is a different dog - a complete cuddle monster.
As I type he is sat with his head on my lap Smile

Right now I have two cats and a parrot. Both cats were rescues.

Merlin, my male cat, I found on my doorstep when he was two weeks old and about the size of a mouse. My wife and I scooped him up and rushed him to the vet where we were told his approximate age, and that he probably wouldn't survive. My wife and I just looked at one another knowingly. I'm a farmboy and I've bottle fed almost everything and both our parents had owned petshops when we were kids so we were used to tiny baby animals. Merlin survived and thrived and today his is a healthy boy of 10 years old.

Sevin, my female cat, I found abandoned and locked in a landromat one night while I was doing my washing. She was too frightened to come out from behind the washers where she was hiding. But she was starving so we were able to coax her out with food and milk.

Baby, the parrot, has been with me for 13 years now. I raised her from a tiny chick using a handfeeding syringe and baby parrot formula. She has a feisty Amazon Attitude, but that's just her nature. Despite the fact that she tries to bite me everyday, she's a good bird and I love her.

I also had a cockateil named Honey but he passed away from old age, he was almost 20.
