I'm just wondering if there are any get-better-quick fixes to a cold or at least ways to make it bearable. I realize that this may be wishful thinking, but I have a terrible cold as it stands. I am currently blowing my nose something fierce and am also tolerating a sore throat. Man alive! Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
is it just a simple cold??? or you already got allergic rhinitis?? better consult your doctor...
the simplest way to relieve colds is drinking LOTS of WATER!!!
Studies have shown mixed results regarding what might make a cold better. The most reliable thing I have seen is that mega doses of Vitamin C can shorten the duration of a cold if you take it right around the onset of the cold. Even that has had some conflicting reports. The best thing you can do is give your body the best chance to fight off the cold: get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, and keep your energy up by getting enough calories. The next best thing you can do is not get yourself sick again: change the sheets, clean the dishes, etc.
Sounds funny, but you can get paid for having a cold. If you live in the US midwest, near Madison, WI, the university's Dept. of Family Medicine is conducting an ongoing study of Echinacea in the treatment of colds.
|The Echinacea Cold Study is enrolling participants RIGHT NOW and would like YOU to be involved in our study.
How Easy Is It?
* Fill out surveys
* Be willing to see a doctor
* Be willing to take Echinacea or a placebo
* Participants will be paid
* Open to anyone 12 years of age or older
to relief the Nose obstruction instantly (and I mean Instantly) : Dissolve in warm water a hand of whole salt and sniff the salty water up on nostril and down the other and vice versa.
to cure the cold: get Iodine solution and paint a grid of squares on your back before going to sleep, you will be well in the morning. Also you can boil litle pieces of ginger in a bit of water and when it is filled with gnger essence add water till up let it boil take it of the cooker and add good amount of honey, drink it hot then go to bed!
cover up your neck, HEAD and waist if you go outside. And the rest of the body of course
It may aid you to consider getting a flu shot. Cost about twenty dollars but compared to the money you would spend on medicine and doctor bills after the fact time the number of times you get sick a year would probably save you money and time overall.

zinc, echinacea, vitamin C, lots of fluids, all the sleep you can get

Hot toddy! Take a mug of hot water, add juice from 1/4 lemon, and a slug of whisky. Sweeten with honey, and drink it while it's hot. Tastes good, will ease a cough, helps a mild sore throat, and if it doesn't make you feel better, have two and you won't CARE.
I know, I know, alcohol is bad, and all that, but that's basically what people used back before there was cough syrup at the pharmacy. It works, and at least you know exactly what's in it. Not a single ingredient with more than two syllables, unless you add a dash of cinnamon.
drink medicine much better
Get lots of rest and drink lots of water (8 glasses a day) .
Common cold is caused mainly by certain virues which are of thousands varieties. It is practically impossible to produce a vaccine against all of them and so we have to suffer the most irritating thing - common cold !
From my experience, I would suggest all those who are prone to frequent cold attacks to consult an ENT specialist. One of the most common trigger of cold is allergies, deviated nasal septum, inflammation of nasal mucosa, decreased immunity levels, general weakness, reduced atmosph. temp., wind, pollen etc.
To cure cold fast, you can use the steam therapy. Don't add any medications to the steam and just breath the pure steam for 10 min or so 2-3 times a day... This will solve the issues to a great extent...
But we in medical profession says that cold can be cured in 7 days, if you are taking medications or else, it will be cured automatically in one week !
Zicam, Zinc, Cold Ease... any of those. Zinc is the best, but awful to taste. There are some products out there, like the Cold Ease that works wonders for that.
Other than that, just get plenty of rest, make sure to drink plenty of fluids, and get you some DayQuil to deal with the symptoms.
as someone already said, lots of water. that's what i do when i catch a cold. you can also try orange juice.
I read a news article a week or two ago saying that in a new study honey did better in relieving cold symptoms compared to some over the counter medicine. I don't know how much you need to consume, but I assume a table spoon or two will do. The next time I get a cold I'll be using some honey.

Best way to get rid of the common cold is to getting in a steaming shower, that will help to open up your nasal passages, you can use nasal saline drops to help dry it up.
Then alternate between warm brothy soups, and icepops.
STAY AWAY FROM DAIRY......it increases mucous production!
Hope some of this helps
