New branch of biotechnology - bioinformatics

I am a pre-graduate of Bioinformatics student in UKM Malaysia. I basically studying a degree of Bioinformatics.

Firstly, I am not very familiar with this new branch of biotechnology, but now I getting to love this very much.

It is actually a bit similar to biocomputing where we use computer to solve biological problems. But bioinformatics is wider because it includes the skill of sharing the data. We try to build the database for DNA and RNA sequences through the web and share it among the scientists.

I am not sure what bioinformatics student in other country is studying but for my U, I study many programming coding such as C++, PERL and so on. Next sem I have database and artificial intelligence programming to study too. For the biological part, I have the chance to study how clonning is perform, molecular analysis and how to draw the structure of the molecule by using a graphical tools such as AUTOCAD and OpenGL. Besides, in order to prepare my final thesis, I have to know some knowledge regarding statistics and calcalus. Pretty much to learn, right?

Razz I don't think it would suite every one to study that Razz I like to be simpler, and to help others, so I think I have the right occupation on my mind, only six more years and I can graduate in that Smile

I think it has something to do with interest to, or I know. So good luck to you Smile and on your finals

I think that's very interesting. It's definitely a suitable field as technology keeps progressing. I'm sure this field also has or will cross over with biometrics, which is obviously a very practical technology even for consumers.
