i downloaded the latest version of DotA few days ago i.e version 6.48b.in the game when i click on 'start game' nothin happens.wat's wrong?do i need to download the latest patch for the game because i have v1 of the game

Just checking:
Are you playing online? Coz afaik you can't play the normal non-bot version without other players.
You will probably need to update your War3, however if you're playing on BNET then that should happen all by itself.
Also just checking: do you have tFT installed? This is required to play dota.
