Computer Administrators

Why would a program say it can only be run by a computer administrator account when I'm already logged in as one?
AftershockVibe
It's probably trying to access a file (or other resource) but windows is denying it access. It's wrongly assuming that this is because you're not an administrator.

This may be for lots of reasons but the most common is probably that a file is already opened by another program so it cannot write to it or is otherwise read-only for some reason. Alternatively it may be that the file doesn't exist at all.

Or... it may be anything else under the Sun. I'm afraid there's no way of knowing either unless you download a tool which monitors what file handles it tries to open. (And that only works if it's looking for a file!)

Which program is it anyway?

I had the same problem on my laptop when i bought it. My solution is to create a new account with adminstrative powers, and then log onto this account to open the program. When i did this, i managed to open all programs like this.

I was using Windows Vista, so it may not work if you are using something different.

It is Vista. :) I'll try that and see what it does.

Vista is it's own can of worms, however, if you right-click on the executable it should list a "Run as Administrator" option, which you will find invaluable for installing any and all software.

You guys have been very, very helpful. :) So far, I've overcome the administrator issue, and am trying to install it again. Hopefully this time it will work properly!
