Another earthquake in Indonesia, small sunami

paul_indo
Tonight at 7pm local time there was another earthquake in Sumatra. 7.8 or more on the Richter scale. Don't know of casualties yet but I believe many houses are destroyed.

Central and north Sumatra are blacked ou due to power failures.

It caused a small tsunami only about 3 meters from what I have heard.

Does it seem that there are a lot more natural disasters in the last 4 or 5 years than previously???
I sure think so. Or maybe it's the speed that news travels these days that makes it seem that way.

What do you think?

i hope it will not be a big disaster like the one in 2004.

There certainly have been more natural disasters in the last 4 to 5 years than there previously have been.
Though there is not much we can do in times such as these the promptness of the relief provided can mean a lot to the affected people.
I guess its the age of earth and also the climatic changes that have been taking place due to global warming phenomenon.
The thing that worries me the most is the climatic changes taking place around the world at an alarming rate.It is important how we tackle the situation because it may get even worse in the years to come.

7.8 on the richter scale?? Thats a big earthquake isnt it?

Sure it is a great quake, but i can't be compared with the quake that hit the region on December 26th 2004. Then quake had a 9.3 at the scale of richter. You can see it as a TNT bomb of 32 gigatons.
The quake that reacently happened had a power 7.8

The quake of 9.3 was the third greatest quake that has been recorded since the recordings has been started in the year 1900.

That quake had such power that even the earth has been shifted in his course. To give you an idea how much power can be released at an earthquake they use the equivalent with TNT that exploded.
