Friday evening, dashed up to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Yorkshire coast just in time to get the tent up before dark. Pint of Old Peculiar & back to bed for an early start saturday.
7 of us assembled at the main carpark in RHB for the off, though one lad had to go back home, so left us at Pickering.
Whitby in the background, 10 miles into the trip...
90 or so miles later & we're still in Yorkshire, after riding pretty much straight from east to west on the map...straight through the North Yorkshire Moors & through the Dales...wall-to-wall stunning scenery...
Reaching the Lakes in good time we're over Windermere on the pleasant car ferry...
Then, head for petrol & a bite to eat in Coniston, in the shadow of "The Old Man Of Coniston"
Heading towards The Wrynose & Hardknott Passes...Langdale Pikes in the background...
Looking down into Wrynose Bottom, scintilating scooter country, though tough on the clutch & brakes...
...and reaching the foot of Hardknott Pass...Britain's steepest road!
A tough struggle up the zig-zags, all the way between first & second gear, rewards you with this cracking view over into Eskdale...
Finally, all assembled again in St Bees, 170 miles or so later, of the best one-day scooter ride surely England (or Britain?) has to offer.
Leaving St Bees (shunning the chance to watch ngland on the box), I headed north to Carlisle to rattle off the football ground, but passed nearby the Isle Of Man (never realised it was so close)
...then left there & dashed as far along the A69 as possible (wanted an early start the morning after to rattle off the North East's footy grounds!) before dimming light forced me in to Hayden Bridge (near Hadrian's Wall) to pitch the tent in lovely spot by the river, capping off the mose enjoyable 250 miles I've possibly ever done on the scooter....superb weather all weekend, thankfully!
