Windows Server or Window SBS 2003?

Kelvin
My company is planning to upgrade the server and so we will be getting a new one. Problem is, which Window's 2003 Server do I choose? Windows Server 2003's license is more expensive than SBS. However the CAL is much cheaper than SBS. Here is a rough breakdown in MYR (Malaysian Dollar)

1.) Windows Server 2003 = MYR 2300
2.) Windows Server CAL = MYR 670 (5 CAL)
3.) Windows SBS 2003 Standard = MYR 1750
4.) Windows SBS 2003 CAL = MYR 1750

There are about 25 CALs required which will amount to:

1.) Windows Server 2003 = MYR 4980
2.) Windows SBS 2003 Standard = MYR 8750

Which of these server OS is suitable for an organisation of about 30 people. What is the main difference between the Windows Server & SBS version? The CAL for SBS is about 3x more than that of Windows Server??

Windows SBS includes Exchange, SQL 2005 Workgroup edition, ISA, SharePoint, and Frontpage. I believe the catch is that all of these apps must be run on one server. Large organizations would typically run these applications on separate servers. You should not have a problem running these on a single server if you are dealing with 30 users - just don't skip on the RAM.

Hi,

Microsoft Small Business Server is perfectly scaled for a company with 20 - 40 employees... You get a good package of instruments to deploy a perfect infrastructure for your company.

I agree with the last post to spend a little on extra RAM for your server.

Bart
