So how would you feel having another actor running for an office position? According to WorldNetDaily.com Christopher Walken is going to run in the next election! Now... don't get me wrong, i think he is a fantastic actor. And that is just it! He is an actor. My take? He should keep acting, and stick with that.

So what?
Ronald Reagan was an actor too and he was a good U.S. president!
point taken, but in today's day and age, i just hope that if he makes it, he really knows what he's doing cuz we have had our share of crappy people in office.
I hope to god he's not elected. I've seen his website and his platform had three points, some I agreed with, but what kind of platform has only three points? He didn't say one word about his views on terrorism and what he would do about it. I think California got lucky with Arnold, and Reagan was one of the best presidents we've ever had. I just don't think Walken has what it takes to be a countries leader. He should run for senate in my opinion if he wants to be invlved.
The deer hunter comes to mind...
Foriegn policy disputes to be settled with a friendly game of Russian Roulette.....
"Come on Nicky...do it Nicky...do it...DO IT!!!"
I can't watch the Fatboy Slim video starring Walken and then vote for him, can't even do it.

You know, the fact that the "platform" doesn't mention terrorism is the only reason that I didn't dismiss it immediately. I firmly believe that the threat of terrorism is related, directly, to the USA's insistence on flexing it's muscle on the world stage. If we stop engaging in a global pissing contest, perhaps the rest of the world won't be so keen to prove that we're not as invincible as we claim to be.
I'm not sure if I believe that the site is real at this point, but it would be interesting if it was. Hell, if Regan can do it, surely Walken can.

I didn't know who Chrtistopher Walken was till you wrote this. If he's the guy in the "Weapon Of Choice" video, ha ha, it'll be awesome if he becomes the Prez. That video's going to used on every site that'll come up against him... heh heh heh...
I heard the other day he said this wasn't for real =/
would be cool tho...better than Bush...or Kerry..or anyone I can think of XD
Sure, Reagan was an actor, but he was involved/interested in politics for a long time, even before running for governor of California. Has Walken ever done anything other than acting?

That is the real question. You guys shouldn't exactly dismiss him because he's an actor until you know the answer. And I haven't seen anyone post whether or not he has been involved in politics previously.
If I'm not mistaken he hasn't done anything in politics. That doesn't mean he hasnt been interested in it and knows his stuff. I simply dismissed him because of the lack of position. There isn't enough information on where he stands on certain issues.
I know that we need to finish this terror bullshit once and for all then get past it, but we're not done with it now, so I'd like to know his stance on it. The US isn't in a global pissing contest either. Other countries who boast of power and threaten to attack us (not to mention a group that did attack us) are provoking the US. We're certainly not invincible, but we can defend ourselves better than anyone else. If a kid is in school and another kid bullies him, does the teacher not reprimand the bully? I'm not saying the US should play the international authoritarian role all the time, but we're going after the ones who attacked us first. The 9.11 attackers do not fight for a country, they fight freedom. Since they waive no flag other than terror, we must go after the group that attacked us, and like groups. I don't think we'll ever get rid of terrorism, it has existed for a long time and is here to stay. We must control it or more innocent people will die. The world is a ****** awful place, people die for no reason and crime is spread throughout it. It's getting worse and worse and there isn't any way to stop it. Instead of putting up a pointless fight, we have to make sure the decline is as slow as it can be. Like a dying planet whose inhabitants want to make the remainder of it's life as easy it can be.
Sorry this post got off topic.
First of all, I want to make it very clear that I do not support terrorism and I believe that the attacks of 9/11 were horrific and those responsible should be brought to justice. I also want to make it very clear, however, that the idea that the United States of America was the innocent victim is ludicris. While bin Ladin and his followers are extremists who went well beyond rational and civilized means to express their anger, one must acknowledge that their concerns were valid in many respects.
Bin Ladin called for Fatwa against the United States because the US insisted on interfering in what should have been a Muslim issue when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Bin Ladin offered his services and those of his troops, which the USA trained to fight off Russia's invasion of Afghanistan, to push Iraq out of Kuwait. His offer was refused, however, because America was chomping at the bit to protect its interests in the region. Bin Ladin returned to Afghanistan and waited for the USA to do it's thing and leave the region as he had been promised. When the USA set up permanent bases and started presenting itself as an influence in the region, bin Ladin, and 3 other Muslim leaders called for Fatwa. And yes, the issue of Isreal/Palestine did play a part as well. Again, however, you must recognize that for a people who believe that they have a claim to a land, a new country being formed on top of them by the rest of the world is upsetting.
From their (Sheikh Usamah Bin-Muhammad Bin-Ladin; Ayman al-Zawahiri, leader of the Jihad Group in Egypt; Abu- Yasir Rifa'i Ahmad Taha, a leader of the Islamic Group; Sheikh Mir Hamzah, secretary of the Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Pakistan; and Fazlul Rahman, leader of the Jihad Movement in Bangladesh) call:
| Quote: |
First, for over seven years the United States has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples.
If some people have formerly debated the fact of the occupation, all the people of the Peninsula have now acknowledged it.
The best proof of this is the Americans' continuing aggression against the Iraqi people using the Peninsula as a staging post, even though all its rulers are against their territories being used to that end, still they are helpless. Second, despite the great devastation inflicted on the Iraqi people by the crusader-Zionist alliance, and despite the huge number of those killed, in excess of 1 million... despite all this, the Americans are once against trying to repeat the horrific massacres, as though they are not content with the protracted blockade imposed after the ferocious war or the fragmentation and devastation.
So now they come to annihilate what is left of this people and to humiliate their Muslim neighbors.
Third, if the Americans' aims behind these wars are religious and economic, the aim is also to serve the Jews' petty state and divert attention from its occupation of Jerusalem and murder of Muslims there.
The best proof of this is their eagerness to destroy Iraq, the strongest neighboring Arab state, and their endeavor to fragment all the states of the region such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Sudan into paper statelets and through their disunion and weakness to guarantee Israel's survival and the continuation of the brutal crusade occupation of the Peninsula.
All these crimes and sins committed by the Americans are a clear declaration of war on God, his messenger, and Muslims. And ulema have throughout Islamic history unanimously agreed that the jihad is an individual duty if the enemy destroys the Muslim countries. This was revealed by Imam Bin-Qadamah in "Al- Mughni," Imam al-Kisa'i in "Al- Bada'i," al-Qurtubi in his interpretation, and the shaykh of al-Islam in his books, where he said "As for the militant struggle, it is aimed at defending sanctity and religion, and it is a duty as agreed. Nothing is more sacred than belief except repulsing an enemy who is attacking religion and life." |
