Birth to Twins at 55

indianinworld
A women in India gave birth to twins at the age of 55. Both mother and twins are fine. It is to be noted that this couple is the world's second oldest couple to have given birth to twins after Lauren Cohen - a 59-year-old American.

The women got conceived through an advanced procedure called Intra Cytoplasmic sperm injection and the hospital authorities claimed that, this was the first of its kind in India.

yeah, that would be bad especially if they died at an early age... then when someone tells a your mom joke they think of there mom that died when they were in 6th grade Sad

I'm sorry, but this is kind of sick. Doctors and scientists are conducting experiments for their own sake, while there's still no cure for AIDS, cancer, malaria, even the common cold. Not to mention, they're spending god-knows-how-much money using humans as guinea pigs while thousands of children die each day of starvation, malnutrition, easily treatable diseases. And of course, another downside of having such an old mother is that you're at much higher risk for birth defects, schizophrenia and the like.

patasarriba, I agree with you in general. It is very questionable for people to become parents at these advanced ages. On the other hand, I disagree with this comment:

The research on in-vitro fertilization is paid for by the people who want babies and couldn't otherwise have them. The ethics of providing the service for women of advanced age has been questioned, so the procedure would probably never be done unless the recipients were not only willing but eager to be "guinea pigs", and to pay top-dollar for it too. Apparently several women have lied about their age to overcome limits set by clinics.
