Christian Beliefs

chris182
Ok,
there are loads of different types of christians now, some who dont believe the bible and some who do, some who dont consider the "new" ideas of the church, some who have different doctrines.....

whats yours?

(ok if you DON'T believe in christianity, but do in a superior being explain why here, Dont just use this post to try and dis/prove god)

If Christian means "like Christ", then how can a Christian not believe in the Bible? The four Gospels of the Bible are the only teachings of Christ...

and I don't quite understand what you are asking.

Personally speaking, I belive it is incredibly naive to think that only 4 people wrote about Jesus. I mean honestly, if Jesus were the Son of God, and performed the miracles that the Bible claims He did, would only four people write about Him?

I think that if we are going to read these stories about Jesus, then we should read them all. What about the Gospel of Judas or the Gospel of Mary.

Let's not forget that the Bible was established some 325 years after Jesus' death at the First Council of Nicaea, which leaves 300+ years of error.

To that 300+ years of error, add mistranslation (as it went from Hebrew to Greek and Latin, etc.), which creates even more error.

Finally, I feel that it is safe to assume that the world as we know it is a changing world. The Bible is static. It's getting increasingly hard to apply the OT (Old Testament) laws of one nation to the entire world (as most of the Christian Church seems obsessed with doing).

What am I getting at?
Read the Bible, and believe in the Bible, but also take it with a grain of salt. Questioning is how you learn. This is why I refer to myself as a Christian Left, because I feel that the Christian Left allows the general message of Jesus (which is "believe in me, get to Heaven) as well as allowing 2000+ years of change to influence their decisions as well.

We aren't living in 33 A.D. anymore.

I think he's asking all the christians to state their beliefs. Maybe he's trying to find the right "belief" in Christianity.

Although I'm not sure when he meant when he said:

Anyone know what he meant in the quote?

may God bless you.

Not to mention that the Bible would have been subject to each person's own personal beliefs.

Personally for me, trying to get the entire world to turn to Christianity isn't the way to go. You shouldn't force someone to believe in something that they don't want to believe in. You should put it out there for them and let them decide for themselves.

Without a doubt. And I hardly think that their laws should apply to today's modern society. Not to mention, if they WERE applied simply because it's in the Bible, that would be mixing state and religion, which should never be done.

It's simple ... Christianity must change or die. Hence the reason that, although baptized Catholic, I am most likely looking for a Christian reform church, or anything that is Christian Left.

Interesting, what sort of change do you mean? I think you are wise to look to other sources outside the Bible to learn what Christianity is about and take things with grain of salt.

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to the church. Like I don't buy into Catholic doctrine because of what they have added to the ordinal church doctrine from what the NT teaches. And the Catholic additions is what brought about the protestant revolution. No Pope, No bishops only direct access to God through Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

I think most people here are forgetting that you can believe in god(s) without being a Christian. For instance, I believe in God, but it's probably not the traditional Christian God. It's very similar, but there are a few key differences. That and the fact that I don't believe in the Bible makes me a non-Christian. The best way I've found to describe myself would be a theist. That's it. And granted, theism itself isn't really a religion, but that's the best way I know how to describe myself.
Shewolf
Believing in the Bible? Well, there is no point; we all know it's a book, right? Wriitten and rewritten more times than any other book I know about.
Most kinds of Christianity in my country says that as long as you believe Jesus was a son of God (yes, now written with a capital letter), you are a Chiristian. But of course most of them have additional terms as well, but that's an other story.
Personally I use to say as I am as Christian as any tree, rock or thought. And whether that does or does not make me a Christian; that's not really up to me.
HereticMonkey
Actually, it's never been re-written; it's been translated a lot, however...And even Jesus said to question everything, so I don't think even The Bible should be immune to that...

if youre a Christian you MUST believ in the bible, espacially the new testament.
the new testiment consists of Jesus and his life from i think erm 12 to 29. (not sure about that)

but yeah if being christian means following/believing in christ then you must follow the bible.
Menchi
I tend to think if the Bible is accurate anymore.
It is said that the Devil wil try to insnare you and lead
you astray any way he can.

Why not change the Bible?

As far as I know, have faith and trust in Jesus.
Believe he is the son of God, and follow his teachings.

As far as what church I go to...I dont. Jesus didn't go to the
church now did he? He stayed with the thieves and the cut throats.
Im not Baptist or even Catholic. Just Christian.

It's not required for a Christian to believe in the new testament. Such as forms of Baptists and Catholics. And in fact, as Shewolf pointed out, some religions require only that you believe that Jesus was the son of God.

For example, let's say that Joe believes in Jesus, but not the Bible. Joe believes in the teachings of Jesus as well, but that the Bible is a load of crock made by corrupted men.

See where I'm going with this? Just because believing in the Bible AND Jesus is required in your version of Christianity, whatever it may be, doesn't mean it applies to all versions.
Soulfire
The "change" that Christianity must make that I referred to is mostly in regard to futile attempts at applying Old Testament law to today's society, which I mentioned in my post a little.
