I seldom get really excited about an RPG anymore. I feel like you should just play, rules are secondary to the experience and can frequently be made up as you go along. That means that I tend to ferret out more source books than rules. "Spirit of the Century" has me lusting after a full on game again.
Maybe it is because it uses the barely present Fudge-based Fate rules. Maybe it is the great source material. Maybe it is because it id dedicated to a dead friend of mine.
As a game milieu, SotC is pure pulp. Everything from Indiana Jones to Sky Captain will feel at home here. The writing is sharp and fun, full of background tidbits and creative possibilities.
Character creation requires players to briefly plot their character's first appearance in novel form. Other players write in their cross-over appearances and the party is instantly bound by previous adventure.
If you are looking for a fun RPG experience, SotC is the game to return you to the form.
