Do you believe in palmistry ?

bartdou
I don't know where is palmistry originally from, but in the orient it has a long history.
it says that the lines in your palm reflect your destiny
http://www.yibooks.net/famous/UploadFiles_4749/200604/20060408231939465.gif

as you see, there are 4 main lines in our palms:
the life line(left top), represents the vitality and your life-span, the longer this line is, the longer you live;
the career line(left middle), represents how successful your career will be;
the wisdom line(left buttom), represents how hign your IQ is;
the emotion line(right), represents your EQ and the situation of your marriage.
and in China, the fortune teller would observe male's left hand, female's right hand to tell the fortune, this is the right way, the other hand of a man or a woman seems do not have this function.
so do you believe in this, do this lines really determine a man's life?

Personally, I think it's nonsense...aswell as astrology, religion & ghosts.
All mumbo-jumbo designed to either make money for someone or to act as an emotional crutch for people with weak minds.
To the above list, you can add tarot cards, ouija boards & "communicating" with the dead.

Oh, and mind-reading, too.

Sorry !

Just like reading tea leaves in the bottom of the cup. Nope!

Nah. I don't believe in it either. It's just a load of rubbish which people on the street cook up in order to earn some bucks. They just tell us what we want to hear - I mean, has anyone ever told you that you shall have a bad future? NO. That's because they just want the money.
Nameless
No I don't believe in palmistry, on the basis there is no evidence for it, it is highly illogical, and there are various explanations as to why people may believe - or pretend to believe for their own profit - it. (You know, kind of like any psychics, religion, or excuses for the war in Iraq Razz)

naaaaaah......!

Foolish to believe this Palmistry........

Why these lines form....? think in this way once before posting =vely for palmistry ?

These lines will form for any human as the baby will fold the hands - in womb

So think it....!

No, I don't believe in it. There's no basis for it. The lines are there for a reason, but that reason is not to depict our future.

I don't believe in this either, the only thing for sure you can tell about a person from their hands is from the calices; if they are a labor-worker, a gunman, rodeo roper, etc.

I actually tried to learn palmistry, I did believe in that and it was really quite fun to read someone's life reflected on his palm. I got quite far and pretty much all the good that came out of this venture was that I had some cool trick to show at parties.

So what I'm saying here is that this palmistry shouldn't be taken seriously(as all other hocus-pocus magic stuff), a lot of people are sceptical(so am I) about it and don't think it's real. Maybe there is some truth about it, because when I was learning palmistry some things that I "read" from my hand were actually reflecting my true character. But I think there's nothing supernatural in it, simply palmistry seems to have roots in science, not in fairy things.

For some people it is a way of life so I guess we gotta respect those fanatics hehe ;]

In India, many people believe in palmistry, astrology and other such "sciences". Some of them are generally quite worth of believing in, such as Vaasthu (it's something like Feng Shui, but more to do with the layout and plan of a house, including it's entrances, exits, number of doors, etc), which I believe are a true science.

Anyway, back to palmistry. My mum once took me to this apparently very accurate palmist, and the first time we went, what he said was more or less accurate... then again, he said a lot of basic things. The thing is... he was very correct when he read my dad's palm lines. He correctly mentioned a major accident in my dad's life, and also correctly predicted that my dad would move out of India on account of work.

However, the second time we went to visit him, he just told me a lot of bull that was mostly inaccurate.

I keep hearing accounts of a lot of palmists that have got it right, and then I keep hearing about a lot of them who've got it wrong, so I don't really know who to believe...

My grandmother used to believe that the line that curves around your thumb (where your hand folds when you touch your pinky with your thumb), was for longevity. If you have a distinct line, it meant you would have a long life. I personally think it's gobbley-gook.

Nope, same as horoscopes and crystal balls and so on. If they're accurate it's either a coincidence or because they prediction is so vague that it almost can't be wrong. A random horoscope I got from horoscopes.com said:
Quote:
Better shape. Great day to focus on bettering your health. That's because today your health and physical wellbeing are in stronger focus. To help achieve the best results today, try to focus mostly on eating healthy foods, and on getting enough rest for your body to rebuild its natural defenses.

Healthy food and rest have always been good for your health, not because the stars aligned to make it so. And I have no idea how my health and wellbeing could be "in stronger focus."

Just as Wikipedia isn't a crystal ball, neither is life. Unless you truly believe in it to the point where the subconscious could act upon it (causing a subconsciously self-fufilled prophecy), nothing will happen and you will stay where you are. You don't need a palm read to do this - you can do it on your own by habitually repeating yourself.

No I don't believe in palmistry,

The reason I am saying this is because the lines of our hands are made as a consequence of biological reason. It all develops inside the womb of the mother. Thus if the lines were to represent our fate then would any happening change them?

I mean to say that if we get operated and ask doctor to create a line on our hands manually then would it change the fate that would be to occur??, certainly not! And if one cuts his hand by knife in order to increase his life "line" then would it increase his life or he can die out of bleeding?, certainly the latter may result most probably if first weren't to occur.

And it is also said that one famous indian personality(I'm forgetting his name), cut his hand with knife in retaliation when the palm reader said that he can't do anything that could attain fame in his life.

Thus to sum it up palmistry is just a observance of lines created by biological reason rather then lines created by "GOD"!!

I think these type of things only give you what you put into it...if you believe in this sort of thing, you'll get a lot out of it and 'see' lots. If you don't, then it will look as silly as you think!
Davidgr1200
Why the lines in your hand? Why not the lines on your foot? or your neck or on your....
I wonder how people think up these silly things? There are apparently people who "read the future" in tea leaves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_leaves#Fortune_telling_tea_cups)!!!!
How about thinking up some new ones:
Drop a glass which shatters - the pattern of the broken pieces will predict your future.
Sneeze onto your screen - the pattern of the yuk will show your future
Run over a badger - the shape of the flattened carcass will reveal your future

I agree with the majority, no I don't believe.

There are a lot of things like this where the vunerable people are taken in and normally suffer financialy.

The arts of divination have roots in a sort of scientific principle - not any more or less so than weather prediction (which we all know has its short-comings). We can view trends in the economy for instance, and make relatively accurate forecasts about the coming three years (but there are some factors that will always remain unseen and could skew the results in great ways).

As a professional Tarot reader I make no personal claim to predict the future (and neither do most of my worthy peers). What I do claim is the skill at divining the most important factors to be considered in any particular matter, what the history of those factors have been so far as it relates to the current concerns, and where (by forecast) these factors are likely to lead - and then it becomes the job of both my client and myself to determine the best route available in order to achieve the best outcome desired. Any reader who tells you "such and such is going to happen to you" is not practicing divination (as I and many others do) but "fortune telling" which is illegal in many places and highly suspect (because I see plenty of evidence suggesting the operation of Free Will in any thing).

For the scientific principle, I consider that the entire Universe is connected. A sequences of monads all having effect on neighboring monads, which leads to chain reactions which eventually trickle down to the farthest reaches of space and time. So, by shuffling and laying cards down on the table in an apparent "random" fashion, within a structure or pattern of layout form (giving seeming order to seeming chaos), I perceive that I have taken a snapshot of the Universe as it exists at the time and can from there look at the patterns unfolding to deduce the answers to questions. This takes skill, training, and an intuitive knack.

I do not know palmistry well enough to fully comment on it - but to those who say that the lines where created in the womb and that alone means "nitch" to the whole idea - what better place for said lines to be developed? Do they portend an inescapable future? No, I believe very little is inescapable in our futures - but they do describe the greater traits of the individual, and a wise (ie experienced) person can then form an accurate description of that person and deduce from there the most likely strategies of that individual and then (of course) lay out a most likely response pattern and so predict (forecast) an outcome.

It fits right in with all psychological "sciences", which any practicing psychologist (not to be confused with psychiatry) will tell you is as much an art as it is a science - in other words, all these things require subjective considerations to practice and a knack for intuition.

I really don't believe in it. Here is why:
At my birth the doctors etc looked at my hands and at the lines, they told my mother that I might have some mental disorder, just because one line on my hand was not "long enough".
Now I'm a perfectly healthy young man without any mental disorder.....
So they were talking nonsense.....
The lines in your hand don't tell anything, it is you, who determine your destine. In other words: your own actions determine your destiny.

Ah, but what determined your actions? Where did your first consequence come from? Just something interesting to ponder.
