Its interesting. I'm really into making Short Films. Films with quirky/crazy story lines that go for under 5 minutes, as you would know. Anyway, I've got Adobe Premiere Pro, a great program. Some awesome features. But when I'm editing a short film, I find Windows Movie Maker to be more suitable, believe it or not. The fact is, I don't need many great features. The heart of the movie is in the story line - not the effects or awesome acting.
Ok, so I like the simplicity of Movie Maker. A few features which is enough for me. But, it also has a lot of crap in it, and a few features I need it doesn't have.
Is there any other Small, Simple Video Editing program I could get which focuses on Simplicity?
For a person who hates Microsoft, I like WMM a lot.
The only program that has exactly all the features you want, and nothing else, is one that you've spent months programming yourself.
So anyway... punching Google turned up this and a whole lot more that you can go find yourself.
I would use iMovie for stuff like that. Of course you need a mac to be able to run iMovie. I can't really help out with Windows apps since I run all macs and Linux.
Theres a program by Ulead which is similar to movie maker but i found it easier to use when i had it. Its something like Ulead video studio or video editor, if you go to their website you'll be able to find it easily
Or you could go to www.download.com, have a look there, everything is there
I think that the best program which has a simple interface and it's easy to use is Sony Vegas. I made a lot of movies in this soft. It has a lot of options and effects (easy to use). But if U want to do movies in easier way - just use WMM.

There are a couple I use, but they're not free by any stretch of the imagination. I use:
Sony Video Vegas
-and-
Adobe Premiere.
I think you can get a full running trial of Vegas, but don't quote me on that. As I am sure you know, Adobe, being the money-grubbing capitalists they are, don't do well with trials. It's usually EXTREMELY limited. But if you can find one, I highly recommend Premiere. It is an incredible program, but it does take some getting used to.
Yeah I never want the hassle of editing simple short films in Premiere, I'd advise you check out some of the ones in the first link.
I am not really into Movie editing, but I have used Windows Movie Maker some times and it was a good program to use.
iMovie and Windows Movie Maker are great free little apps to play around with for hobbyists. One that costs a little more, but does a lot is Adobe Premiere Elements....kind of the lite version of Adobe Premiere. It's actually pretty cheap though. You could also download Avid's Free DV....it's an actual Avid interface and all. Other than that, I don't really know much about the consumer end of video editing,.....I do this for a living so I use programs like Final Cut Pro, Shake, After Effects and such.
Thanks all, I bought myself Adobe Premiere Elements and I'm loving it, amazing program. Very powerful and very user friendly.
Thanks again to everyone!
Even programs that aren't free you can just get the serial code to, the possibilitys are endless. But yeah, I like windows movie maker.
I remember reading about this subject on a different strand. You should try searching for some of the key words and you may find it.

Bad !! BAd !! BAd!!!
Premiere Elements is alright, I would've gone with Sony Vegas. I find in general it has less bugs and has a smaller learning curve than Premiere.
