we're thinking about taking a trip to north carolina, probably not during the summer, but perhaps late spring. Can anyone from North Carolina tell me when are other times that are good to go? Can anyone recommend any places in North Carolina? Also, when is the earliest in the year that it would be good to go to the beach?

I am not from North Carolina so I will not try to tell you about the beaches but I can make a recommendation. You can easily spend a day at Biltmore in Asheville, NC. It is a huge house with some very interesting history. Asheville is a nice town too.
You should definitely go to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a small place in the mountains called Blowing Rock.
