One lonely night,
I could not sleep
The blackness over me
So deep
I waited
For the light of dawn
For golden sun,
For hopeful song.

And there you were
Your face a blur
But eyes that sparkled
Of allure
You stood entombed
In golden light
A specter
That dispelled the night

But when I tried
To take your hand
I found that logic
Could not stand
You were surreal
With bones of steel
But mind and heart
That could not feel

You disappeared
And hours passed
And I escaped outside
At last
I walked along
An empty road
Advanced into
The wilds unknown

But just when I was free
From pain
Ensconced within
My own domain,
I saw you
Standing there once more,
Not knowing
What you’re waiting for

So then I knew
The worst was true -
I still have not
Abandoned you
And now,
No matter what I do
The song I sing
Will ring anew

Your resurrected ghost
Remains
Through suns and moons
And snows and rains
Until the closing
Of my days
You’ll follow me,
Set me ablaze

But how I long
To be set free

Please just let me be
