I bhought a 30GB Video Ipod two days ago and it's just not working. I tried to charge the battery with the USB cable, it's not working. Itunes don't recognize it (as Windows). BUT!, I don't know how, but the day before yesterday (I don't have a clue about what's the word to define this..?!) , after 2 hours of testing, Itunes recognize it and I have been able to charge it and put all my music on it. Yesterday, I tried the whole day to do everything on the support pages of apple.ca and it wasn't working. I have like 6-7 USB ports on my computer and I tried all of them, nothing more. When I plug it, Windows make the little noise to say he detected a new peripheral but nothing more. I can click on the peripherals icon but I only get my modem and a usb stockage thing, (the Ipod, but it shouldn't be like this). Itunes do NOTHING and I have nothing on "My Computer" too. Also, when my Ipod's battery is 100% down, I'm able to plug it and the battery will load a bit, just enought to be able to open the Ipod (The power line is red and VERY small, probably 1% loaded), but as I said, it wont load more than this. Finally, I know my Ipod isn't broke because it have worked one time.
My Itunes version is : 7.3.2 (or the last one, I'm sure of this)
My Ipod version is : 1.2.1 (I know it's not the good one, I would update it if I had the chance to!)
Model : Ipod Video 30GB (apple)
Please reply fast, I'm leaving in camping this night for 2 weeks (a travel in car of 12 hours) and I don't want to hear my sisters sing and cry the whole time.. I can pay Frih$... but please help me!!

Urban: I wish it's better like this ! If not my title make no sense ;P
I suggest you go back to the store with this problem. Or don't you have time for that because you keep talking on #frihost IRC channel?
Because the stupid guy from FutureShop won't give a damn about it, they don't have any skill and he got paid, he don't need more than this.
Aren't they legally obligated to help you, since you purchased it very recently? In Holland there are laws for that.
Nope, I went to a Ipod specialised store and they just told me to call Apple, I think I will do that.
Just call Apple. They know what they're doing. Take it to the nearest Apple store, perhaps?

Done and done. The guy from Apple was pretty stupid.. and the problem was stupid too, the peripheral was just disabled.. dunno why!
Thank you for your help!
thats what you get for buying an ipod, seriously those things are so useless. You pay about 50 dollars more then its worth just for a name.
I have nothing to say about Ipods, I'm really happy of it and what are you talking about? You think a Creative "Ipod" is better? I searched a lot before buy this and I found nothing better. Before I had a crappy 256MB made by Sony, i got it for 150$ (256MB was a lot when the mp3 revolution began!) and just to add my 40 songs, I had to take over 30 minutes because we had to use their program, I won't say what I think of this program because I would get muted. Plus I'm talking about a 30GB mp3, it's not easy to find a 30GB mp3 of quality, we have the Creative one, the Ipod Video, probably a Sony crap, .. and I think that's all, and I don't care to pay 50$ if I'm able to load my 2500 songs in 20 minutes, 12 hours of battery, possibility to have videos, photos and more. And finally it's esthetics.
Anyways, I was thinking like you before I get it but now I must admit that I'm very surprised.
(Finally it wasn't that urgent, we are leaving tomorrow, I thought we was leaving yesterday )
I'm waiting the cash, Apple!
Drop it a few times and out fly your $$. I'm happy to have a Flash memory player... very small and nearly unbreakable.
I don't want a brick, I don't think you can get a unbreackable digital camera but I'm sure you have one and you spent more than 150$ on it, that don't mean you shouldn't have one ! I add the sandisk 8GB mp3 to my quality list but once again, it's only 8GB

You're talking about the same crappy one that I replaced with a Creative Muvo 1GB flash player. It was a really good price and the sound is better than the Sony - especially when travelling on a bicycle in the wind. I'll say it. SonicStage is a crappy proprietary piece of garbage ad should not every be used for anything ever! But, if you have a Network Walkman and you want music, you need to use it, as Sony makes a proprietary file format on the player. The only good thing about mine was the 35 hour battery life. I don't care. If I'm away from my computer for a while, I can put a new battery in the Muvo, which is an advantage after all, as you might be away from a computer for a long time. Its also a "drag and drop" aware player, so I can put music on it on my Linux computer, which makes me happy. That also means that I can load new tunes at any computer as well. Too bad it doesn't do ogg vorbis files.
Yeah, I'd move away from the Sony too.
Actually there are brilliant SonicStage workarounds. I got a Sony player from family (otherwise I'd have bought a generic one, obviously) and after getting tired of SonicStage, I got a program called voidmp3fm. It's just one EXE, you put it on your stick and you can manage music from any Windows computer! Look here.
