NBA Market Watch: KG to Boston
by: Eric Weiss
July 30, 2007
Multiple sources close to the situation told DraftExpress Sunday that the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves have come to terms on a trade exchanging Kevin Garnett for a package including Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, and Theo Ratliff. The exact details of the trade arent known at this point, but it is believed that the deal will be completed shortly with similar parameters. |

After the blockbuster deal Minnesota and Boston have sending KG to Boston together with Allen and Pierce on 1 Team they seem to be one of the favorites for this coming season, This will help the Boston Spirit comeback as the Celtics together with Pierce and coach Doc Rivers has been in a downward spot where they had a bad season last year and now with the newest acquisition on the team they managed to assemble 3 of the best superstars of the league but what other analysts and people say how long will it take for them to Gel and play as a team? Its hard to have 3 superstars all in a same team do you remember the LA Lakers with Shaq Malone and Kobe plus Payton.. its important for this superstars to know their roles on the team and accept it to become succesful... what are your insights on this move and to the Boston Celtics... guys?
Well I like this move. Of course who wouldn't want the big ticket on their team? Pierce, Garnett and Allen are three different type of players and if they stay with their individual styles it should help a lot. With Shaq, Malone and Kobe, they were all around the rim players, maybe with the exception of Kobe, who played a perimeter game as well, but he still loves to take it to the rim. The celtics have Garnett as the paint, Pierce as the penetrator/slasher and Allen as the Perimeter. Dangerous trio. Only time will tell if they can gel together. I have not seen a team stacked in a while that plays well together. Usually one guy is the center of attention, I do believe this one could work
The Celtics have put all their eggs in 1 basket
Trading all their young talent for a 2 year window at the title is a big move
Ray Allen is 32 and coming off major ankle surgery, Garnett is also 32, and Pierce is 29...If they dont win it in the next 2 years its back to the lottery they go
Honestly i still dont even see them winning the east, Chicago are a really good young team + the cavs and pistons, celtics will still struggle
Only time will tell if this team is bound for glory will see it on the coming season and have you heard about Reggie Miller comeback, guess what! he wants to be in Boston WOW! i saw a article on ESPN if im not mistaken about that source that he wants to comeback with the Celtics... Reggie is old 40 something i guess if he comesback and just stand and shoot those threes i think thats fine but becoming the gunner and the way he used to play back then.. I think he wont be able to be like that.
Boston rules next season...huh...
Yeah KG Pierce and Allen plus the comeback of Reggie wow.. As what KG said like the old days when other teams walk in to the Boston Garden to play against the Celtics the opponent team is afraid to step at the arena because of the team and now its coming back..
The Celtics are definitely wanting to win right now, and the East has just gotten so much stronger, unfortunately for most it was involving the Celtics. I don't think the Celtics should've given up everyone they did, because they gave up any hope for a future. They'll be right back in the same situation fighting for lottery picks in a couple of seasons, but they might be able to win a championship or two first with this team. I do like the big three, but they won't be getting much production out of anyone else unless they sign some people

a) The comeback of Reggie is over, and was never going to be "wow"...he woulda been AT BEST a 5 ppg scorer
b) Teams will still fear Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland more than boston...Boston has NO BENCH, there starting C will be Kendrick Perkins ffs...They signed James Posey, a player who plays the same position as 2 of their stars (Pierce and Allen)....That team doesntget out of the first round of the playoffs
I heard PJ Brown might come on boston...
And In behalf of the family of Eddie Griffin who just died with a car accident Rest in peace.

Yes RIP Eddie Griffin, its a shame he could never over come his personal demons
back to PJ Brown, i also heard his name mentioned as going to Miami and Dallas....
This off-season really did workout better than anyone expected for Boston. After getting raped up the butt in the lottery, I thought that this season would be even worst than last. Now its looking like Boston is going to be the team to beat in the east. Considering the Eastern Conference is embarrassingly weak right now, I would not be surprised if they get one of the top 3 seeds in the post season.
But the expectations are really high for a team that did so bad last season. there really is no telling how the team is going to perform together. On paper, I don't know if Boston could've put together a better roster.
Don't take an great optimistic view of this events.
KG is a great but not succesful palyer, it has been 12 years since his first season in minesota! Why? Maybe due to his offense way, too much jump shoot, a bit far fromm restricted area, etc.
So PP must lead the team and match, as how he did the last 9 years in Boston, I am worried about his health. nearly 30 games what he had been absent in last season.
And who will be the big center? Kendrick Perkins? or scott porlad? I can not image the sense when them meet Shark, Ben, and Chris Bosh, even Kirstic. The similar things happen in SG, Rajo Rondo is too young! Eddie House? he is a Point Guard most of the time!
So, Detroit Pistons, Cleavland Calviers, inculding Nets and Raptors will bring great trouble to Celtics. Don't forget young Bulls and Magics!
Wow, I'm not sure why so many people think this move is so bad. The celtics got KG....and who exactly did they give up???? A couple draft picks and a bag of rocks. I mean come on.....the move might not get them over the top to the finals, but it sure does make them a lot better. And in the Eastern conference...who knows? It's not exactly a powerhouse conference....it's kind of like the NFC in football, you know they are going to lose the championship anyways...>LOL. Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a little, but still, in the East, you don't have to deal with the Suns, Spurs, and Mavs....which are probably the three best teams in the league....all in one conference.

Al Jefferson is not a bag of rocks
Al Jefferson will be a top 5 PF this up coming season, his post moves are unbelievable
Gerald Green is not much chop i agree there, but the picks and Jefferson will come back to bite them

Umm are you forgetting they got RAY ALLEN on draft day?
I imagine there opening night starters will be PERKINS, KG, PP, RAY RAY and RONDO
Reggie is not coming, they need more backup players, I heard that Hudson is having negociation with them.

Ok Jefferson is alright, but compared to Garnett??? Yikes They basically gave up one decent player, and a bag of rocks for KG. (By the way, Jefferson's career statistics are 10.3 points and 6.9 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1.04 blocks per game, KG's are 20.4 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game.) Granted they gave up some draft picks.....but if the Celtics are better, those picks will be low ones anyways. I dunno, I still don't think it's near as bad a deal as a lot of people are saying. Garnett actually won the MVP of the entire NBA one year, so he's pretty freaking good!
Gotta love the move.
Cavs are worse.
Pistons are aging
C's are a top 5 team in the East, and have a legitamate shot at winning the east. It won't be easy, but it is absolutely something they can accomplish.
They've been rebuilding since Ainge got there, they had to make this move.

KG is 31, Ray is 32 and Pierce is 30....The oldest key member of the pistons is sheed who is 32, Chauncey is 30, Rip is 28 and Prince is 26..So the key celtics are older than the "aging" pistons
Ya, the Celtics may be a little older now. Of course in the 'what have you done for me lately' world of sports, they are probably just trying to win now. So if you are saying they are mortgaging their future for a couple good years now, yeah they probably are. Giving up draft picks for good veteran players pretty much proves it. Of course with free agency, nothing is the same as it used to be. In a few years, when Garnett is older and starts to decline, the Celtics can get rid of him and his big contract and just sign other players in free agency. It's not like it used to be. The big name players used to be with one team for life usually....there were a few exceptions, but mostly guys stayed in one place. Now, big name guys change teams all the time. Makes it a little tougher to be a fan in some ways, but also increases fan interest, as a bad team can turn it around and contend the next year......which is exactly what the Celtics are trying to do.
i think those three will lead them to a championship this year. They scored 70 pts in the first half yesterday and they are just a great combo. Still hoping for my knicks though....

While I love how they're playing right now and I wish them the best, they honestly don't stand a chance at winning the Finals. They may not even win the East. You have to take into consideration the fact that at least one of the three will get injured sometime in the season...it's almost inevitable. There are teams in the East who can definitely compete with them. Even if they make it through the Eastern Conference and win that, they'll still be playing one of the big powers from the West (most likely the Suns/Spurs). In a seven game series against the Suns or Spurs, there's absolutely no way they could maintain their level of play. Their bench is nothing compared to either of those teams meaning Garnett, Pierce, and Allen are going to be forced to play 40+ minutes a game...and in a seven game series against one of the best teams in the NBA, that's not going to be easy. They'll need a bench and some guys outside of those three to step up if they even want to get out of the Eastern Conference alive.
The Celtics look really good this year...im hoping they will go all the way this year...because they definitely got the talent....cause KG is a beast on the boards
I think they have a shot at winning the east and a shot at winning the whole thing. As, long as one of them doesn't get hurt during the playoffs, I think that they will win the East but most likely lose to the suns (I hope) spurs (more likely) or mavs (if they can get it together)
I disagree.
Much as they are really playing good right now despite loses to the Cavs, etc. their support group would be eaten alive by most teams. The Cs might still be able to go deep into the playoffs but i don't think they will reach the Finals. Cavs, Pistons and some surprise team will probably stop them in their tracks.
KG to Boston was a great deal for them, and he has really vaulted this team to the best record in the NBA. I think they have the best shot at coming out of the East, but Detroit is still the same great defenders they were and will make it difficult for the Celtics to make it to the Finals.
