# the party quest

spinout
this is an oldie:

Is there someone that can solve this without any testing???

A woman hosted a big party with lots of guests. She was worried about how many persons should sit at a table (all tables had the same size)... Her task was to place out the correct size of the tables so no one had to sit alone.

2, one person was alone at a table.
3, one person was alone at a table.
3, one person was alone at a table.
a.s.o until
10, one person was alone at a table.
11, YEs no one was alone!!!

Question: How many comes to the party? (first solution above 2000 please... )

difficult question without reward!!!
spinout
you got one frih for that answer! that's actually true..

OK!!! Well that is actually not the reward for this complex calculation.

you just verify it. (i think the solution is still wrong)
spinout
you got another frih for trying.

Sorry, it's a higher number.

My question is how you tried to solve it???
To put up the correct number is a task that will be rewarded (small) - but the real reward will be to present a solution in words or some mathematic lines...
spinout
Lets do it simpler - i want the first solution , thats below 4000...

So man! this time the answer is the correct one.
The correct aswer is 5041 and the solution is obtained by multiplying 7,8,9,10 and then adding 1.

It it the right way? or the solution you were expecting?

The solution below 4000 is 2521.
spinout
No, hm how did you get to that number...
10 frih reward

The solution comes by multiplying 7,8,9,10 and then adding 1 to the product.

7*8*9*10+1= 5041

similarly
7*8*9*5+1=2521
spinout
You were so close!!!!

that one around 5041 does not work in all cases. (actually that's the reason I lowered the target)

Your solution 2521... divided by 11 comes to fractions...

But you have actually figured out the way to solve this and that was my question.

you got 50 frih

it means you were not asking the question just for the sake of a Contest, there was something behind it. May be someone asked it from you or may e something else.

I've asked this one to the math students, math teachers and they have failed. Simply because they don't have imagination to solve it. Almost everyone has presented a number, mostly I got a correct answer but no solution. They are using the method of testing...

I actually solved it when I first heard it, in words... But I hadn't the math knowledge to get an answer, today I got it.

So you did very well! I see you have the math skill, and the logic almost there.
