Becouse this sport is the best game of the world .This is beautiful sprort where many people who plays in amateur and profesional teams fight to end ,to win a match .It is fantastic

You can play it almost any where at any time. You only need a ball.
With American football(and most other sports) you do need a team or it will be hard to play.
You can play 2 vs 2, 4 vs 4, anybody that wants to step in can step in. Options are unlimited and that certainly adds to the popularity. When you look at competitions, the tactics come into play and add another dimension.
It is just a great game. :D

It has been in news and critical analysis suggests a possibility that Brazil lost the two games (1998 final and 2006 quartel final) against France on terms since France is a major aid provider and has good trade relations as well (and french governed Brazil in colognial ages ).
Like people refer the start of the game where at the time of national anthom, Brazil players have expressions on thier faces as they are alerady defeated and two of the players are crying as well (even at the start of the game). At the time when France was making a fierce attack, one of the Brazil defender was tying his lace at the corner of the ground etc.
Also, Brazil made only one shot on target in the whole game. This is confusing, french were not on the top of thier form and Brazil were too strong comparitively. I beleive Brazil would have won 2006 as well only if they had not to face france in quarter.

haha, it is possible and sometimes football result might be controlled by the bookie in sports betting.

this sport has been popular for so many years especially in europe...
maybe people enjoy to watch football because every goal is very hard to score

because the football has long time (90 min) then people love to watch it. but football is a low than taekwondo or kongfoo or swimming
Football is the sport more popular in Brazil. Come in know that sport in our country.
Football is only popular in America because we have nothing else to do except melt in front of the TV and get potbellys from drinking. I think most Americans like violence, the more the better such as hockey. If football were more popular, I'm pretty sure other countries would have picked it up by now instead of only America. And football is more commonly known as soccer in other countries. Football compared to the other sports like basketball or soccer is actually not that big.

If you did not know once again the Dallas Cowboys are making their way back to the pinnacle of Football. With the convincing win against the Detroit Lions, I think they are headed to the top.

Football is rough and full of good stories (which typically aren't even about the game).
Hellrazer is exactly right. Football (American soccer) is popular because its cheap. In many countries a majority of the population cannot afford all the equipment it requires to play baseball or American football, or tennis, etc. I personally really like soccer (as it is known to me) and I would play it if injuries did not prevent me from playing, but I don't think its inheritly a better game than a lot of other sports. I just think that its cheap and easy for the majority of the world to play.
When I was a kid I loved playing Football, I would still today, but I would'nt last 5 minutes on the pitch without an oxygen tent

In international forums I am trained that Football is Soccer and if I ask about "my" football I make sure to add NFL into it.
Football as Soccer is way more popular on a global scope than Football as American Football.
As for Soccer I do not know much about it except it has inklings of Ice Hockey theory (or vice versa).
Hockey trumps Soccer on this side of the big pond unfortunately.

The real football is soccer. American football is just a ripoff, u dont use ur hands in FOOTball! 
The greatest footballteam in the world you find in sweden and it is AIK. AIK have the best fans in the world. The name on the league in sweden is Allsvenskan and it´s not one of the best leagues in europe but althouht that AIK´s fans are among the best fans in the whole world, and with no doubt they have the best tifos.

American Football is based off of English Rugby. If it is a "rip off". It is from that sport not football/soccer. And in rugby the only way to score is to kick the ball and you kick with your feet. thus the reference football.
Can anybody actually sit down and watch soccer? As much fun as it is watching a bunch of people kick the ball to each other 45 times, I would rather watch American Football.
I'm sure there's alot of strategy to soccer, but as far as entertainment goes, there is zero (at least to me).
