I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer:
I sent my Aikido Sensei an invitation to my wedding and he wrote back (in Japanese) our names, omedetou (then in English) that he can't come. He taught me shoudo and knows that I took a couple of years of Japanese in college, so I'd like to write part of my 'thank you' back in Japanese. I'm just a little worried about all the nuances of properly thanking someone.
Would something like 'doumoarigatou gozaimasu' or 'arigatou gozaimasu' be appropriate, our should I use something along the lines of 'moushiwakegozaimasen' or 'sumimasen?' He didn't send a gift, just a reply.
BTW, my Sensei is a 70-year-old man from Japan, so I figure it will be hard to be over-formal.
thanks, Dan
