How to Host on Warcraft III with Windows

Sparda
NOTE BEFORE YOU START: It seems you cannot do this tutorial if you are using AOL.

I've noticed many people on Warcraft III battle.net servers have this one simular problem. They cannot host games. I've spoken to some of them and they tell me portfoward.com isn't helping them. So I made this tutorial for anyone that would like to know how to host..

First.. You must be using a Windows XP computer (maybe a later version not sure what are the features)

1. Click Start on your desktop
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Security Center
4. Click Windows Firewall at the bottom to pull up the windows firewall dialog
5. Click the Advanced Tab in the windows firewall dialog
6. Here you should see the following text areas:

Network Connection Settings
Security Logging
ICMP
Default Settings

7. In the Network Connection Settings area there is a box with a list of internet connections you are using. (eg. Local Area Connection, Wireless Connection 2) Select your connection you are using for the internet.
8. Click the settings button next to that box.
9. Here there will be 2 tabs: Services and ICMP. In the Services tab add a check to the following:

FTP Server
Telnet Server

10. Click the Add button
11. Now you need to fill in the following information:

Description of Service: Battle.net1
Name or IP: Put your IP in this box. (If you don't know your IP go to the bottom of this tutorial)
Select the TCP port
in the port boxes (internal and external) put 6112

Now press OK.

12. Click the Add button again and fill in the following information:

Description of Service: Battle.net2
Name or IP: Put your IP in this box.
Select the UDP port
in the port boxes (internal and external) put 6112

Now press OK.

13. Now click the ICMP tab
14. Add a check to: Allow incoming router requests

Press OK
Press OK
X out your security Center

"""Now this part I do think you need to do also. So just in case.. I think you should do this part too"""

Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Windows Firewall > Exceptions Tab > Add Port > Port Name: battle.net1 Port: 6112 TCP. > Add Port > Port Name: battle.net2 Port: 6112 UDP.

There you go. You should be able to host on warcraft III now. If you need to know how to get your IP follow these directions:

Click Start on your desktop
Click control panel
click network and internet connections
Click network connections
Double Click your internet connection source (whatever one you use to surf the internet ect.)
Click the Support tab and it should show your IP address right there.

Hosting with windows is a bitch, full stop. lol. Windows is just to unstable to host anything major unless your'e using an expensive server OS that microsoft have developed. It's much much easier to just create a partition on your hard drive, install a more stable OS and host that way.

I've never hosted WoW from a windows machine so i have no idea how to do it, an no motivation to find out how.

He's talking about Warcraft III, not World of warcraft. He explains how to hosting a public game in Battle.net servers and how to open firewall ports to host it. Wink You're talking about WOW and creating a WOW Private Server.
Nice tutorial.
