to stop guests and spammers from adding a link to a post, it has stoped all spam i used to get from bots, but i still get lots of guests which apear to be bots tonight iv had a group of 25 bots then later on a group of 16 bots i was wondering will this bot count eventually go down coz there swarming it quite alot, if it doesnt stop though i think i will block the ip from coming on to my site in the 1st place does that sound like my best way to solve this. SMF has a good CAPTCHA - several times as good as any phpBB captcha. Use it to your advantage. Disable guest posting, allow registration, but make sure the CAPTCHA is on. Now they can't post and soon they'll just stop coming to your site, though one bot or to will stop by occasionally to see if it can't register then and/or try and harvest email addreses from posts. Disabling guest posting will save you a bit of bandwidth as the bots will not post their website several times with each attempt to block them.
yea iv been using smf and for a while i did disable posting by guests but i thought that it would be nice to let guests post aslong as their isnt a link, and iv put one of them scrambled picture text code things so thatbots cant sign up

It'd be better to just use a plain user system. That way if people really want to post at your site they can register, and plus inserting the CAPTCHA on your post template will probably waste more bandwidth than if you locked guest posting and used registration templates.like that only my forum is also spammed so i deleted what to do?
I have a few smf forums and hardly have any spam worth noting. Have you installed the akismet mod?
You can also incorporate bad behavior script... google it but it will block out alot of people along with the bots but there's really nothing you can do.
Iv found the best thing to do on SMF is to either not allow guests to reply or download a mod which stops spammer which i think thats what you have done isnt it
I think every webmaster has met this problem,you can find the method to resolve it!
