Ubuntu Studio Network Problem (Related to Java)

Well Well Well. I have Ubuntu Studio and I decided to insatll Java (Java Console 5 and 6, Java Startup, Webstart and a few more) after I installed them the internet/gaim/downloading new packages did not work. Yet the network said "You have been connected to the network".

Anyone know how to fix this?

Have you considered the possibility that your Internet might just be down? Sounds daft but it's the first thing to check.

If it is working, try removing the packages you just installed and try again.

pinging any hosts does work?
check the output of ifconfig in the terminal to see if network is fine.
