How can be explained the following facts (all resulting of Psycology research related to USA, font: http://www.polbr.med.br/ano00/psi1000.php):

-Sex is the most searched internet subject. About 1/3 of all web searches are related to erotic photos, videos and chats.
-The erotic sites accumulate annually about 1 billion dollars.
-Virtual sex became one of the most profitable e-commerce. The easy access and privacy makes the user to be comfortable with its fancies.
-20% of the users use to visit sex sites.
-There are always 125.000 per hour visiting this kind of site.
-1% of the users was considered virtual sex compulsive, what means that at least 200.000 "sick" people. They spent 15 to 25 hours weekly in porn sites.

If there is a reason for such a huge number of users, including children, what can be done and why can´t we stop this? What can we do?

I believe that virtual sex is a problem because it envolves the users and this changes the user behavior at home and at work.

Virtual sex in and of itself is not a problem. Kids looking it up are expressing a legitimate curiosity, and adults should have the right to choose any kind of outlet as long as others are not harmed. As long as it's not an addiction, it should be okay.

However, a consensus needs to be reached over whether or not it's considered an actual relationship or not, and whether or not it should be considered adultery. I don't think it should be because the "relationship" is usually of a non-serious nature and is equivalent to flirting at the office (ie, it's no challenge to the partner). Also, if it's an issue, then there are other issues in the relationship that go far deeper than someone engaging in cybering...

Dude, that's like saying that washing your hands is a problem because some people get so involved in doing it that it disrupts their lives.

Why Virtual Sex...

...Because they have no life.

People want to live their fantasies, Virtual Sex is a way people can do something they usually would never do, yet feel safe and comfortable with themselves.

What?! Dude, you've got to be kidding me. How can it be okay for a couple of kids to be allowed to look pornography and similar stuff.
You say it's out of curiosity. maybe, but I also say it's cos they don't know better. Plus, what about all this innocence stuff? Don't you believe kids have an innocence about them?

Besides, i'm pretty sure some kids WOULD get addicted. They would see sex as everything just because it's pleasureable. When one of these kids would get a girlfriend, he might try to have sex with her, and here we have a problem of teen-pregnancy (i doubt a kid is going to be able to get his hands on protection). In an extreme case, rape could happen (once the kid grows into like 17 or something).

Peace/

Never said it was okay; just said it happens...

Blowing up a frog is innocent? You give kids too much credit...

Am I the only person on this forum who has ever been a teen-ager? Teen-age boys have been trying to have sex with girls since the caveman days; how does having access to internet sites actually encourage it? If anything, you could build the argument that, since he has seen it, he's not as interested. And rape has always been an issue.

And teen-age girls haven't exactly been innocent...

I'm just saying that they are more likely to have sex if they see pornographic material. Cos they will want the pleasure.

nah i don't think it is much of a problem. if people would rather look at online porno rather finding a new person to sleep with because they are single isn't bad at all. some people might even have fantasies they are afriad to tell their significant other and so they look at it online. and for the kids who look it up..it is just curiosity..they are not cats it is not going to kill them. yes their are alot of sites children should be blocked from and that is when a parent should step in and do there job to block sites like that from the kids.
teens will look at it all the time, they having "raging" hormons..they are teenagers.
but as for as actual "cybering" or typing how your having sex or whatever it is called, yeah it is weird and you don't know who you are even really talking to, but atleast they aren't going out and having sex with differnt people every time and comeing home with stds.

sexual content is more of a privacy thing..people shouldn't talk about it as much as they do i think.

Ever consider that you may be missing something that the rest of your group is interested in?

Actually, in study after study, this has been shown to not be the case. Pornography tends to act as a safety valve not something that encourages it. If anything, it's the areas that have limited access that have increased sexual activity.

Your opinion, with nothing to back it.

Depends. However, it's less likely with porn.

It's weird that I'm saying that Porn=Good. Heh.
