Acid based aluminium cleaner for Lambretta restoration......

...this stuff was bought on the recommendation of a friend in the Lambretta Club Great Britain from MachineMart for £3.50 for a litre bottle.
I've submerged the inlet manifold and an old (probably never to be used) rear light fitting to test the stuff (these items are 50 years old).
I've tried doing it as per the label, brushing over for about 20 mins etc, but found that all a bit poor, results wise.
So, these bits are going to stay in for a while....results later.
The cleaner is a solution of diluted phosphoric acid. Very Happy

What's the pink stuff? Reminds me of Cillit Bang...

But what did they look like before? They look relatively good in those pictures.

It's probably a similar thing....phosphoric acid based

well.....I know you're all eagerly awaiting the results of this test, so here we are!

Both items are very clean, so the solution did it's job, in that respect, but as stated, it didn't get all the paint off (OK, I know it doesn't say it will)....AND I left both parts in the stuff for about 24 hours....MUCH longer than the label suggests.
I still had lots of brushing, scraping to do to get the parts looking as they do on the pic, so all in all I'd say you're probably better off reverting to elbow grease and some old rag....it'll get done in a fraction of the time this took, and you'd get the paint off too. The light fitting will need polishing now (after the paint has been removed) if it's to be used.
