Hey! What do you think about new seven wonders of the world?
http://www.new7wonders.com
Well I think it was just a ploy by telecom companies, new7wonders website to arouse people's sentiments & earn some free cash because every sms we sent or every call we made for voting was having a "premium charge apply" condition.
Well, I've voted there like 5 monthes ago and I don't like the results.
What is Petra? Hear it for first time. And what does Christs sculpture do over there? That's new construction.
I like that Great Wall is over there. That's all.
And the Taj too.
BTW, who is this agency to determine the new wonders of the world ? The selection was made by free and paid votes, through telephone or online, which clearly tell, is not a best way of selection. UNESCO also confirmed that it has no link with the initiative, which it says would reflect "only the opinions of those with access to the internet".
And for the people who've voted, how many of them have seen atleast 3 of them ?
Hmmm... if youve never heard about some of them...then maybe you need to read up on history.
But i cant help but feel that the fact that it was decided on a vote means that some monuments got more votes than they should have. Christ redeemer for example. It shouldnt even gotten on the 21 list according to me,
I really liked it, because the Christ Redeemer is from my country, Brazil.
I think it will bring more people from other countries

Very true.
A true world wonder should have some mystery to it. The pyramids of Giza and the statues on the Easter Island have that mystery. Shame they didn't get 'elected'.
I think that "deciding" such a thing like that should only be taken with a grain of salt, seeing that it was taken from an internet vote. /eyeroll
Its not a ploy. Actual people from world over are voting and that says all.

Yes, thats what I was saying. People all over the world were voting but no body ,except telephone companies & new7wonders organisation, got anything.
Elect new wonders is a good thing, but it would be better if the UN directed the election, There's no right value in this election but this buildings have rights to be called "wonder"

the Chinese voted their wall [or should I say walls for those who know better], Indians Taj Mahal, Brazilians the Christ statue, Mexicans Chichen Itza and so on.
"the following 7 candidates have been elected to represent global heritage throughout history" and "announced at the Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07"
WHO are these nincompoops to DECLARE anything?

indeed, wonder implies "how on earth did they build it" not popularity contest!
