Thumbnails Linked to jpgs in the Same window. JS or Html?

pavlov2002
Hello everybody.
I'm trying to build a page with many thumbnails in a side and a space for a bigger Jpg in the other. I'd like to link the thumbnails so the the bigger version appears in the side.
The link opens always in another window...I tried using _self in the target field but without any change.. and I don't know what to do know...and I'm googling a Lot!
Anybody can help????

are you using frames??? Frames will make it lot easier. Otherwise it can be done by JS. But i recommend you to use frames and target the image to open in that frame.

Yeah, apparently frames would be the only option for me 'cause I'm not that good at JS(I am totally a beginner), but I'm trying to do a pretty nice homepage for a photographer friend of mine, and frames, for what I see browsing, look always a bit ugly.
Can you check this page I've found? It's pretty much the same thing I'm trying to realize : http://www.michaelwilliams.co.uk/portfolio/mrwportfolio/fashion/fashion01.htm

Thanks a lot for the suggestion anyway!

You can either use frames (as suggested by imagefree), which would not be difficult to set up, or complex Javascript (using the onclick function and tagging each thumbnail). Frames would be far easier and more simple - I recommend using frames.

Edit - frames can look quite neat, if you customise the borders. It depends on what browser you use, though. I think Firefox, Netscape and Opera don't recognise the customisable settings, whereas Internet Explorer does.
