I'm trying to learn some basic Japanese, but my PC is not Japanese text enabled. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best applications to use/ easiest way to do this? Thanks.
Japanese characters
Install Japanese fonts. A simple apt-get away in Ubuntu/Debian, no idea how to do it in Windows though.
Apologies, that was a really blonde post.
All i had to do was go to control panel-- date/time/lang & regional ops-- install files for east asian languages, and then insert windows XP disc 2.
It's only about 230MB.
Thanks for the feedback, though.

Not really true. That's all you need to do to DISPLAY Japanese, but to actually write in it, you need to do all kinds of stuff with SCIM, anthy and other components that "translate" Japanese written in the Latin alphabet into kana/kanji.
