So my old trusty HP Photosmart broke, and I'm looking for some that I can wish for my birthday. Anyone got any tips?
It should be using SD cards, megapixels.. well anything higher than 5.0, have a big nice screen, be below $300 and well, be good.
You could use the one I chose:

The downsides are:
*Poor performance for the price (especially on the zoom, but that is because it is an internal zoom, with no external moving parts)
*Not many manual controls (but has many automatic modes)
However, it has the advantage of being shockproof (can be dropped up to 5 feet on a hard surface without breaking) and waterproof (up to 10 feet deep). This one won't break.
The price listed at olympus is more than you asked for, but look at this link, and you'll see it can be gotten for much less:
Google shopping.
I'm very happy with the pictures it takes, and I've tested that it is indeed shock and waterproof myself, and I'd recommend it.
Thanks, but it was not really what I'm looking for. I don't need a shockproof/waterproof camera.. well, as long as it doesn't totally break from a drop of water or a fall from a table.
I highly suggest canon cameras. They offer great picture quality. Typically the G series is good, but the g7 is supposedly not all that great.
Panasonic LX2. Native wide CCD. And many other features... Yeaaah!
i would suggest sony cybershot. currently i'm using it and it was great. and the same time price doesn't too expensive and it has great features, good photo quality and last long.
Try having a look at what Fuji has to offer. I've got two digital cameras made by Fuji and love the E900. They've got newer models now that offer a 3 year warranty as well.
Have a look at the F40 fd or F47 from this link. I'd buy this camera if I were getting a point and shoot camera these days.

I've heard that Canon cameras are very good. I don't have any experience of them, but I've heard a lot of good things about them.
Well, I got myself a Canon Powershot A630, and it's really great
8 megapixels, 4x zoom, 2.5" turnable screen, 1 cm macro..
I highly recommend it.
I have the same camera as Loghete, and I also recommend it. It's pretty good, and not too expensive either.
buy an older camera model.
I used to have a Pentax Optio S5. It was a great lil camera until my niece dropped it.
On upgrading the new model out was the Optio S7 but i couldnt afford it so i looked online and bought an Optio S6 on ebay. Half the price and a better camera than my last!
