According to Chayaa, most of the relatives were wide awake even past midnight and were following the news of the descent of spacecraft which landed at the Edwards Air Force base in California in its fourth attempt around 01:20 IST.

"As soon as we recieved the news our happiness knew no bounds and we burst crackers, distributed sweets and danced in joy," Chayaa said, stating the celebrations went on till the wee hours of the morning (Saturday).

Williams' paternal uncle Vithal Pandya could not be contacted as he was asleep after the celebrations. "We have not contacted Sunita yet. We will be calling her father in New Jersey this evening," Chayaa added.

Why is NASA up there these days? I mean I know they are trying to complete the International Space Station but it seems ever since the Columbia Incident nearly every single mission has been dwarfed by problems with heat tiles. So it is clear that the space shuttle program is on its last legs, because the costs to run the program continue to skyrocket each year but it hasn't been retired because despite all its flaws its the only thing that can carry the large amounts of instruments and supplies needed by the ISS. That pretty much leaves the blame up to whoever canceled the program that was meant to replace the space shuttle.

I am glad to see that the shuttle and crew has returned safely

We realy donot know the cost-benefit ratio of these expeditions. It seems somekind of show business for usa.If these amount of money were spent on the poor countries, lots of benefits would have been achieved.Shifting the landing space for atlantis alone cost an additional 30 million doller. This money could have been better utilised.
Holy
Is this the most recent US launch that we're talking about here?
