CONCACAF Gold Cup

Is anyone here interested in football in North America and the Caribbean? The CONCACAF Gold Cup is happening at the minute in the USA and it's pretty exciting stuff. Although I can't find an English TV channel showing the games, I have been following the results online.

Guadeloupe have caused the biggest upset so far - they beat Canada and drew with Haiti to reach the quarter finals, and early this morning defeated Honduras - a traditionally strong outfit in North American terms - to advance to the semi finals.

They'll play Mexico, who are of course one of, if not the, best teams in the competition. Come on Guadeloupe!!

Whoa, I never expected them to go that far. It's a shame they have to face Mexico though.

I think that USA are the best team in North America. Mexico are really good as well.

Well, the semi finals have been played, and unfortunately the underdogs were knocked out. Eliminated, but not disgraced, though. Guadeloupe went down 0-1 to Mexico (they kept the game scoreless for over an hour, though); and Canada succumbed 1-2 to the USA.

So, it's USA - Mexico in the final. In my eyes, both teams are pretty evenly matched. I'd prefer Mexico to win - a) because I like Mexico, I've always liked them as a team and I'm not sure why. It could be the kit, I dunno, but I've always had a soft spot; b) they knocked out Guadeloupe; and c) because I'm not too keen on the USA (sorry to any Americans reading this forum - most of you are good people but I just don't like the football team. They don't even call the sport by its proper name!)

On another note, both teams are also, I believe, participating in the Copa America which begins this week. A heavy fixture schedule for the players! And we thought Premier League players had it tough!

There were both good matches. Well, it's the best two teams of North America against each other. Mexico VS USA.

Should be an excellent match!

Well, it was the might of the USA that won the tournament, beating Mexico 2-1 in the final.

Well, congratulations for that, USA!

Just saw the match against Argentina though. Quite depressing, losing 4 - 1.

Unless I am mistaken you are talking about a match in the Group Stages of Copa America which is a different tournament.

Which is looking to be excellent this year even though Ronaldinho and Kaka pulled out Sad

Brazil almost never sends their top squad to any tournaments outside the World Cup. I mean do they really need the seasoning and training when all or almost all of their squad plays in top European Leagues.

Great job for the USA winning the Gold Cup. We now have a slot in the Confederations Cup in 2009 where it will be a good tune-up for the World Cup. This is what we really wanted so we placed our top players on this squad, loaded the Copa squad with youth and fed them to the lions in Argentina. I'm pretty sure even if we had the best squad available, not many would give us the chance against an almost full Argentina squad.

Yes, I was talking about the Copa America match. Argentina 4 - 1 USA. Depressing for a USA Fan, but, nevertheless, an excelent game, Crespo equalled Maradona's record. The question is : Can He Break Gabriel Batistuta's record??

Peru, host Venezuela and Uruguary are all through to the next stage (Bolivia were knocked out). Group B will be decided today, and Group C tomorrow. I fancy Brazil to make it through from Group B (along with Mexico who have already qualified) and the USA to go through as the second-best third-placed team. Argentina and Paraguary are already through from Group C.

Quarter finals to be played 7th/8th July (that's Saturday/Sunday)
