CSS Menu looks boring

tony
Any ideas for a way to make the menu at http://wikicode.frihost.net/idlevillagers/main.php cooler?

The CSS stylsheet is at http://wikicode.frihost.net/idlevillagers/stylesheet.css

I think it would be cool if the white opacity from rolling over each button would fade out after a couple seconds instead of just disappearing instantly. does anyone know how to do that? I think it needs javascript but i am not sure. any help is greatly appreciated; thanks in advance!

that can't be done in css, dunno if you can do it with javascript, but I guess so. Anyways, my personal opinion is that I don't like the hover at all, you have a black-gray background on your links.. but when hover it all becomes white, what about the pattern on your background? Remove the white hover function, will look cleaner atleast

I think that the best way to learn CSS is to use an editor that allows you to see how your changes effect your HTML documents. The absolute best IMHO, is the Firefox add-on "EditCSS" which allows you to pretty much view the CSS of ANY page you browse to - and you can change it and see the immediate effect.

I believe that if you get EditCSS, you can certainly develop the CSS quicker than [1..change and save CSS 2..publish 3..reload HTML that uses your CSS and decide :: repeat if needed]. With the EditCSS add-on, you wouldn't need to save a CSS after each change .... keep changing until the document looks the way you want it to - and then copy the required changes into your saved version of your CSS file - and publish, etc.

Firefox's Firebug is also really great for this. It lets you play with the CSS of the page in real-time so you can quickly see if you like the changes. It also helps with any HTML or scripting errors - I'd definitely give that shot too...
